Usage this fin Year so far mostly Redcliffe and the lake.

Sails

4.7 2 times
5.4 5 times
6's 21 Times ( 3 rigs in this range)
7's 20 Times ( 2 rigs in this range)

Boards

83 LTR 6 Times
92-101 ltr 19 Times (2 boards in this range )

Yes July 1 to now. 89 kgs( working on that this winter).
The wind was lower this year. I'll get the stats for 08/09 tonight. Smaller baords more often at a glance.

2008 2009 stats
Note: more than one sail used in session in this year.

84 ltr 16 times
101 Ltr 16 times
112 Ltr 16 times
136 ltr 4 times

4.7 7 sails
5.4 10 "
6.2 17 sails
7.4 18
9.0 4

You can see why the large kit was sold. The difference also in 2008/2009 was I nearlly always sailed Redcliffe, more wind and bump and jump gear doesn't need to be that big. The 2010 result was chasing flat water for GPS. Less wind, A lot more unreliable. A lesson in that as well. Actually teaching kids took me to flat water where I would normally sailed Redcliffe as well. They had better advance fast this year coming.

it's an interesting comparison.

the above figures are soi numbers. positive over a few months indicates la nina and negative indicates el nino. interesting that it corresponds to your data.

models are expecting positive right up until march next year. so don't sell the small gear.

It was incomprehensible, so he chose to mess with your head.
In any discussion of statistics, by definition, 50% will be above teh mean, 50% will be below the mean.
Unless you consider that quite a lot might be just on the mean.

Agree, mostly bigger gear this year, 6.6 and 7.4 had plenty of use but I've been sitting on a new 5.9 for 6 months and haven't even rigged it yet

I thought it was a great season. I sailed 45 times from the beginning of spring 2009 to the last day of Autumn 2010.

My Stats (almost all at Queen's Beach except for my Holidays in WA)

Sails:
5.0 - 6 times
5.7 - 17 times
6.5 - 15 times
7.5 - 7 times

Boards:
85 - 13 times
100 - 20 times
115 - 12 times

I'm 75 kg.

Great northerlies this season but the SE'ly stuff didn't come through as good as last season IMO. Last season only sailed 29 times as compared to 45 this time. The main difference - started sailing regularly at Queen's Beach. I love the top end of the bay.

It's only 84 days 'till next spring!

I always find these sorts of stats interesting.

I started using a GPS whilst sailing in August 2004. I have logged 90% of my sessions since then noting the equipment I used. In that time the equipment ranges from formula board with 11.6m sail down to 44cm wide speed board at 5.0m sail ... and everything in between.

In 246 sessions I have averaged the following:

Average sail size used - 7.0m
Average wind speed - 17.6knots
Average fin size used - 35.83cm
Average board width - 63.66cm
Max speed achieved - 45.43 knots (2 sec)
Total Distance sailed - 11,032.29km
Average efficiency - 1.93 (*)

(*) average efficiency is a bit sketchy. I've divided my max speed in knots by the max wind speed to give this figure. There are many other variables, but this is still an interesting calculation. In light wind (iS131 + 8.3 Koncept with 50cm Venom) the 'efficiency' can be staggering. In strong wind with 4.7m Kult on Kode 86 the 'efficiency' is almost break-even, i.e. 30 knots of wind with 30 knots of board speed.

If I was to ever get sick of all my gear and just get one board and one rig, then theoretically I could just use the stats above to get the perfect fit.

I just like my toys too much ...

So who is veering towards less equipment, and who is veering towards more?
I was intending to reduce the size of my quiver, but have gone the opposite.

I think I've finally completed my quiver though:

Boards:
80 litre Evo
98 litre JP FrestyleWave
111 litre Starboard Carve

Fins
wave: 23, 29, 31
freestyle: 24 (still unused)
freeride: 36, 40

sails
wave: 4.7 5.4 6.2
freeride/race: 5.9 7.2

From memory I used the 5.4 & 98 litre the most last season, especially early Summer.

Would like one more fin for ultra light days, 12 knots. and then the quiver is truly complete. Maybe a light wind sail too, hmm...

Just figured my gear cost more than my car.

I had an excellent spring, sailing a mostly on a JP FSW 101L and 6.2 NP Alpha. Ther were possibly days that I could have used a smaller sail, but getting bogged down at Paly is no fun, and I prefer to hand on to a big sail in teh gusts, if it means I can blast out through a shorebreak instead of being hammered.
Hoping to shed 5kg over winter so I can turn a lot of 6.2 days into 5.8 days.
I bought heaps more gear too, turing the FSW into a FS and a wave, and adding a 5.8 and a 5.3, with plans to travel more to stronger wind.
Summer and autumn was not so good for me. I had two left feet when it came to catching wind. HAd a few good sails though, despite that.

After reading all this, and having only just purchased a 4.7m, I am now considering getting a 460m mast and a 7.2 or bigger NP sail.......

Just download your csv file from GPSTC and save as an excel (*.xls) file for easier formatting. Add some extra columns with your board, sail and fin details per session (10minute exercise) and some colour if you want. I wrote a sum to add the number of times each piece of equipment has been used.

PS - Mine's not that sh1tty is it

Guys come on!

By definition, 50% will be above the median. The mean is something else

Take 10 numbers
1,2,1,2,3,2,1,2,5,400

Mean is over 40

9 of the numbers are below the mean

90% of the numbers are below the mean
