Hi ,

I am considering buying the Insta 360 X3 but I am a bit confused about all the extra parts needed to attach it on the boom.

-I saw that often a flymount is mentioned but what model should I get?
-Is an extra stick or extension needed?
-Where can I buy these parts in Australia?

Thanks,

R.

Flymount original - has the largest opening range for boom and mast mount. flymount.com/flymount-original/
It has a GoPro mount and you need a tripod adapter.

If you add a stick, you can almost add a 3rd person view to yourself when windsurfing. Looks great, on the other hand makes everything more wobbly, and every additional link between your expensive camera and your mount can and will break at some point. I'd recommend to attach a fishing line to your camera and your mast/boom so that you can have some fun videos of your next catapult, rather than being pissed because your camera might still be filming at the bottom of the lake/ocean, but you'll never see neither the camera nor your recordings ever again. Happened to me twice.

What is a real fun mount is a harness mount. You put that belt over your harness, use a stick and basically have a 3rd person view on yourself. Fishing line trick applies here too. I just bought a new one in Aliexpress, but am using these for years:

Do you guys like the feeling of the pole sticking out your back? Seems like it would get annoying but i haven't tried

Well, like is maybe the wrong word. If it is too long, you feel it a bit wobbling in the back, but not really disturbing.
THe only time I find it a bit disturbing is when waterstarting. The moment you pull the sail/mast over your head to get it out of the water, it hits the camera/stick. So when using the camera, I more often swim to the top of the sail and start lifting it up from there. That helps to avoid that the mast hits the camera. But maybe thats just me.

Overall, I'd say to not make the stick longer than maybe 3-4 ft. that is enough for a good angle. longer sticks wobble a lot, which also leads to a wobbly footage. Longer sticks also put more strain on the stick/mount (and break easier). Plus the waterstart-nuisance.

So overall, go for a shorter stick.

I've got the Whizmount. I don't know if you can still get them.It gives a great angle but I used to put it on over my impact vest and camelback and the extra weight etc was exhausting. Next time I'll take the camelback off and put the Whizmount over the vest only.
I'm not taking the vest off because you can be Sue I'll stack it and do my ribs in if I do.

Thanks all, maybe I'll try sometime. I just figure I'll get in a klutzy move while moving the sail near a gusty edge of the trees and do something obnoxious with the pole sticking out of my back

Thank you mariachi.
Would you have a link Oran image for the "tripod" needed for the Insta 360?
The description for the flymount original shows Photo with Insta 360 camera but doesn't specify any extra part...
Also any image/link for a short stick?
Just to get an idea..

I have never used a sport camera before so not very familiar with it..

Thanks,

Sarwind

This is looking very good! Thanks for replying!
Feeling any swing weight? It looks a bit far out, how much length did you have on it?

Most of my videos (youtube.com/@Berowne ) are from GoPro 360 mounted on a 20cm aluminum extension from amazon and a FlyMount original.
Note the FlyMount can only open wide enough for a MDM or RDM mast at head height but needs to be mounted on the boom or way up the mast for an SDM... I broke one trying to open the jaw too far :(
