I recently bought a new board but the zipper on the board bag was totally rusted and broke off. Can i buy a new zip and fix it myself or do i have to take it to a repair guy. Has anyone had this done and can give me an estimate of the cost. I just want to know if its even worth getting it repaired or just buy a new bag.

Thanks

$30?

The zip thingy is pretty cheap $2-3 and if you are a bit handy with needle and thread it's a fairly easy job. Just unstitch one end, put new zip on, and restitch it. Try get a plastic zipper if you can get one that fits.

if you don't mind it looking a bit shabby ,unpick the bottom of the zip and slip a new tab on you can get them at spotlight, to slip it on you will need the zipper to be longer on one side to get it started when you have it working stick a bit of glue on the bottom for the stopper

I got new slider (a good metal one as the plastic ones break) installed for $20 by BigFoot in Brookvale in Sydney's norther beaches.

Unfortunately not in Qld but if you need it done in Sydney Marc Sier at Big Foot is the guy to go to. I got it fixed in the 10 minutes I waited and sewn in securely as well. He said he could replace the whole zip for $50.

If you can't find the right size slider at a shop, any canvas works would be the go. caravan and camper trailer places etc

Why why why do they persist with metal sliders and small teeth that clog with salt, on watersports equipment..... when there are plastic zips with big chunky teeth available for same price?

I buy a replacement runner and cut the zip at one end to get the runner on, then sow the zip closed after the runner is on. It reduces the length of the zip by a couple of inches.

I rang a retailer of these and though they mention boat covers in this video, he didn't think they were likely to be corrosion resistant enough for board bags, but they do make them in a big enough size (usually 10mm).
