Needing to purchase a weed fin for 8.0-6.5 free race sails to be used on a RRD 111L Firestorm 238x68.
My options are Makani fins, MFC, Or Black Project.
Makani offers two different models and one of which is offered in carbon. MFC has been around for some time and has a rep. Black project is new and seems more high end, is also the most $'s
What do you all like of these options ?
depends on what type of weed your sailing, if its loose or in clumps you will need to go 45deg or more, if its growing you can go less but no less than 38deg
MFC are for shallow water, makani use to have some flex maybe the new ones are better, black project are a fully machined CNC G10, just be careful with the sizing, I have seen a BP 28cm and it was a 24cm
if you can get a full carbon weed fin expect some maintenance , carbon is stiff but not very user friendly
summery a weed fin has to have no flex and make sure your getting the size you ordered
or you can wait till I do a post on how to make a carbon weed fin for under $20
