I am not familiar with this "formula line". Do we have that in the US?
Formuline 3.8 www.marlowropes.com/product/formuline it has been standard for ... I don't know, at least 15-20 years. You can buy it for example here www.sailworks.com/the-gear/formuline-3-8mm-downhaul-line.html or here www.ebay.com/c/1364559353. It is dyneema but you cut it as any other line using a hot wire or a red hot knife. The rope is a nice safety feature even if you do not use a race sail ... it is basically impossible to brake ... AL360 uses the slightly larger 4.5 mm version that is even stronger.

Thanks. No wonder google could not find "formula line"
Cover the end in superglue and while wet , run the rope backwards tightly through a bunched up rag in your hand . The tip will end up hard and in a bullet shape . ![]()

I find the formuline is less plastic and more fibrous, so doesn't melt as well. Maybe the superglue trick might be something I try rather than the poorly melted technique. (I'm really just posting so I can reach the illusive 1000 posts quicker) ![]()
I don't have access to a heatgun. I imagine a hairdryer wouldn't get it hot enough?
I don't think a hairdryer is enough, but if you don't try you will never know
Cut it on an angle with side cutters, burn the cut end with a match, pinch with wet fingers.
Yep I've done that one..

Fold a piece of duct tape between your thumb and index, sticky part on the fingers, that will give you grip. Place the rope inside, drop some superglue on the tip and start rolling it. The shiny side of the tape is non-stick
