Hey everyone

The good news is that i took out my GPS for the first time today and was prity good. Not overly fast conditions could have been better, but good for a first go aswell and i was really happy with a good day. Even if dad and i went through a sail and a board from catepults. See the GPS sessions thred for more info on that.

Anyway so prity bad info is that in a couple weeks time i will be going to melbourne to have open hear surgery at the womens and childrens hospital over there. It's been on the cards for about a year now and my doctor reckons i now need to go have to have an artificial valve and pacemaker replacement which is no good at all. I had a hear condition all my life for those who don't know so it has always slowed me down a lot in ANY sport and especially now that it's getting close to the surgery i tire out and just get bugged so easily.

Anyway so i will probably be in the actual hospital for bit under a month however will probably be put out of doing anything decent until probably next summer. Won't get to post another GPS session until after that after just one go so i'm a bit annoyed with that. Miss out on sum school for a while lol, but still miss out on a lot of sport, and most importantly windsurfing.

Anyway thats the news so in a couple weeks i won't be round for quite a while anyway. Going to miss it.

Cheers

Wow Bub's what a bummer!!!!
But after talking to you on the phone, I think you've got the sort of spirit that can cope with that sort of thing.
Hope it all goes well, and you're back on the water blasting around soon.

Wish you all the Best Bubs, it must be pretty scary for you, which would be pretty normal and healthy!!!!! With modern surgery today, they should have you good as gold, and you'll be top of the junior rankings within a year or two!!!!

Good luck mate!!!!!!!

Best of luck Bubs, am sure it will all go well and you will be out and back on the board sooner than later
Keeps us posted first chance you get on your progress, we all keen to hear.
At least you will have some time to gain some board repair skills, fin building and so on for those smash and crash days
Once again, best wishes mate.

hardie: Yeah not really new stuff for me really i had two other big operations like this before that i know of. One when i was months old and one when i was 5 so not to worried about the whole thing.

divaldo:I'm hoping i can use the internet while i'm over there. It's going to be incrediably boring over there not really looking forward to it. will keep in touch at some point though hopefully.

mineral: Yeah mate i will be getting better at repairing because my dad smashed his board again today, the worst he ever has so thats going to take a bit of repairing and also i went through a sail. Might try taping it up but i will be in the market for a new 6.5 now. keeping my eye out anyway.

Cheers everyone always very supportive

Bubs, wot are you doing up this late??
Go to bed right now or I'll confiscate your computer!

Oh, and the good news is, that the Docs must be 100% sure they can do this without stuffing up.
They do lots of these open heart ops on old folk and occasionally they do stuff up, but then they can just say,.. "This silly old bugga was ready to cark it anyway, so it's not my fault."

In your case however, at 15 they can't use this as an excuse so if they thought there was a chance that it would go wrong they probably wouldn't do it. It would just not look good on their resume.

The other good news is that at your age you will get back on top of it really fast, not like us poor old folk that cough and splutter on for ages.

Anyway, best of luck Hamish.

Good luck mate. I too have a dodgy heart valve. It leaks a bit and doesn't fully close. If I had a car engine doing the same thing I'd get it fixed. However I will soldier on. Hopefully by the time it fails the body will have rusted out.

Yeah, I've gotta get me one of those GPS thingies, take it out one day on a jetski when everyone's at work ; )

Truly the best of luck Bubs. We'll, miss your humorous posts for the time being (or will there be even more than usual?). With the way technology is developing these days you may even have an advantage over the rest of us soon (Six Million Dollar Bubs).

Better go, your nurse is here:

Yeah poor sail had a hard days work. Ah well i'll just get a new one and prob just replace that pannel with 50% tape and use it as a spare or for teaching someone. We've already replaced a pannel in it a few years ago aswell. Good shot though, well done dave.

Mate of mine had a similar thing done and he has had no problems at all and he is an active bloke. He plays tennis and he feels that it dosent limit him at all.

Good luck!
