Just saw this pic in the photos section. I must admit i've considdered doing this, but i thought there would be way to much risk of catepulting and smashing the living crap out of my GPS. How many people do it....... does anyone do it??? If so has anyone wrecked a GPS carrying it this way yet lol, or does it work okay???

Actually booms miss noses these days and that's above the boom isn't it.

Hi Bubs

I've been mounting my GPS like this for a couple of years now for my Formula racing with no ill effects. I've had a few launches but not at warp speed but it all seems fine. Someone once told me reception could be affected by the shadow of the carbon mast but I haven't noticed anything

I dont reckon your nose of your board will smash it, but i think your face, harness, knee etc etc etc!!! would all do it!

I dont know anything about mounting GPS's but i do know my fair share crashing positions.

I found that there was quite a bit of vibration and I often couldn't read the GPS when it was bumpy. Whereas on my arm it is much more stable and readable.

Hey Bubs....I was the one who posted the photos.
Lyn and I both carry our Garmins like this. So far this year I have traversed over 2000 Kms with no problems. My 72 year old eyes can,t read it at speed but every time I slow down I have a look. With the board on the beach I have tried to make the GPS come in contact with the board, but I believe it is a impossibility.
A couple of other sailors up here do the same.
The bag is a Paqua Mobile and we got ours at Whitworths for about $30. I also carry my GT-31 on my arm in a bag that Lyn made but is not transparent. Paqua now have a bag called a Paqua Midi which looks ideal for arm ware.
In the GPS section of this forum I describe a easy mod for the bag which makes it a lot better for carrying on mast.
When I am crashing I keep both hands on boom to avoid any nasty contact.
