Does anybody considered or even build already trailer box to carry complete sail with mast on ?
I have very light trailer from my 16 ft catamaran that I could use.
I am thinking now about very light aluminum frame plus thin aluminum walled box to carry complete sail or even two.
Specifically the bigger sail is quite time consuming ( 9.8m2) to setup but that means that box needed two be even 1 meter longer.
In such case completer box should be approx 5.5 m long and 2.7 m wide.
Did somebody try to carry completer sails ? Maybe in the longer van or on top of the ute ?
Or this is completely impractical IYO ?

I have seen a caravan setup to carry heaps of already rigged sails. It was a good idea for a rental place, even if they had to let the downhaul off a bit.

I think a lot of the masts would have ended up with a prebend in them after a while, but I am not sure that matters.

The caravan carried a lot of sails.

Have you thought about tying it to a balloon and just tethering the balloon to your car?

I've seen it. can't remember who it was. maybe steve allen or leo sharpe not sure, it was one of the families in qld that raced.

the sails are loaded in with the mast on the floor and the boom standing vertical. the shape of the trailer followed the outline of the leach of the sail and then went straight at the rear to allow you to walk into the trailer but still reduce the aerodynamic drag.

that's the biggest issue other than parking. the cost of towing it around because of drag. also what are the registration limitations?

Maybe check out the SHQ? Neil Pryde "learn to windsurf series trailer". The sail is left on the mast and boom stored off of the rig. This means that lots of sails can be stacked on top of each other. They are basically stored in a draw which is pulled out. In the case of the larger sails, being on 490 or 520 masts, I think they would take up far too much room.
