Hey all,I have just been given an F2 Sputnik 285 on loan for the summer. Problem I have is my shoulder is not the greatest, so wondering what size sail I should look at? I struggle with a 7m2, being quite sore after uphauling.

I mainly use a 4m2 - 4.8m2 as my shoulder can handle this size well, but I'm thinking that would be too small unless it's strongish winds. The person I got it from said the 4m2 should be ok for me around the 15-20knot winds. but i'm just unsure. I am 80kg the board is 115lt.

Any help would be great.
Thanks

I think these older style boards, longer and thinner than modern boards, are generally more flexible when it comes to sail size. So give it a go with the sails you have. However they may be a bit mismatched with the board. If you can use say a 6m sail it may feel more balanced.

Cool board.

i like the old, skinny boards
and have some older FAT boards too

for your weight in 15 to 20 knot winds, i would suggest a little larger sail(s)
in 20 knots about 5.5 and in 15 knots about 7-oh
and perhaps get/use one in the middle - like 6-oh or 6.5

ideally you should NOT sail with a "bum shoulder"
at least wait until it hurts less

also, have you considered the EZ uphaul ?
it does NOT cost much more than a regular uphaul
yet it helps break the sail from the water using your body weight and harness
i use it when my 10-oh gets water in the luff = heavy and painful

Gute Besserung und Alles Gute !!!

My shoulder only hurts after a long session, Thats one of the reasons I have been using the lighter sail to build my shoulder back up again. I was thinking around the 5.5m2, just have to find a cheap one.

Not a big fan of the new look Sputnik though, to modern for my liking. Thanks for the info everyone.

I read once that these boards were the ducks nuts and everyone wanted them!

What's that thing on the top of the mast track for?

i had a one and found the rails a bit boxy and and would catch chop near the front strap, and also catch entering into a jibe ," maybe technique"

where the mast foot clips into. it clips in, not bolted in.

Very fast board in a straight line. The rails can prove "interesting" when in rough water but will still be as fast as anything more modern. I still use mine and have the 265 Sputnik size board as well for the quicker days.

Anyway you will need a larger sail as suggested above but might need your shoulder to heal first.

Cheers

Just picked up a 5.9 and a 6m2 today so shouldn't have much issues with that size sails. I will try them out on my floater gear just to test my shoulder out first, then advance onto the Sputnik I think.

Thanks for the help all.
