I have left a new quiver in my garage and wont be returning for a few months. In the middle of the night I started having visions of mice chewing into them. Is this a likely problem ?
i have kinda adopted a local stray cat but not sure he stands guard when Im not around.
Thanks. Got it. So the moral I guess is store in their bags hanging vertically with the opening at the top, and the racked boards with the pads facing down.
With the board bags zipped, my boards were upside down little bastards got into the bag and had a field day

Your stray cat might use the new sail as a scratching post. Did you consider that ? 
Bloody mice chewed a 20 centimeters hole in my Patlove boardbag from the inside. They especially liked foam. I'll post a picture soon.

It's a battle. 
The little buggers will sometimes chew up luff tubes for nesting material. You can get rid of mice humanly by mixing a 50/50 solution of "pure" peppermint oil and water. Spray it on your sails bags and garage. Their sensitive noses hate the stuff and they'll quickly vacate your garage and go elsewhere. It worked a treat for me.
Mice in this area chew almost anything. Get through openings that look to tight for them to squeeze through. Need to store boat and windsurfing sails in a mouse proof and heated storage room located in a detached garage during the winter. If you have any gaps. Stuff some copper or brass or if unavailable steel wool pads. Steel wool will rust and stain. If the mice do chew and ingest the material it kills them by tearing their GI system.

A cat will help keeping them out of your basement, eventually they give up nesting there. But then the cat will bring mice from the outside to eat them in peace. Our cat, Maximilian, brings in a steady stream of rodents, gophers, and occasionally birds. On balance, I would prefer to have some rodents in the basement, instead of waking up in the morning with assorted bloody left over organs around the house.

Yes, the little buggers love anything soft and fluffy for padded nesting. Have lost snowboard pants for their fluffy padding and made a hell of an impression when I took my beloved North Superstar out of its bag to roll it out in strong wind. Everybody loved me for the instant confetti explosion the reminders of my luff sleeve ended up in. 
Had it stored on rafters under the ceiling. Bloody rodents climb anywhere.

Have a longer extension ladder stored vertically in the garage. The type that needs the rope and pulley system to extend and retract it. The headlights parking the truck must have spooked a mice. Up the vertical rope ran a mouse. Mice get into everything not sealed with a mouse proof barrier. Every vehicle owned since '91 has required mice proof modification (stainless steel hardware cloth) over the fresh air intakes. They chew openings in the factory plastic screen or the gaps are too large (~1cm). My stacked firewood has multiple nests. Just an indicator of the hundreds, thousands....Yes, they climb and get into anywhere.
Would store any of the windsurfing gear in anything that is not hopefully mouse proof.
