You could put the pin in a brand new tail just to check how it should be.

Regular exercise helps.

I've done this and it worked for a while. I used some 8mm batten rod which was the same diameter as the holes (luckily). Waxed it was able to ease it from the epoxy after it cured. Ill find a photo later today. The repair wore out after a while though. I cant remember what I mixed with the epoxy as an extender...

A wrap around with electrical tape on the extension tubes has helped, but hardly permanent

I remember using a dry film lubricant called Molybond to build up the surface of helicopter main rotor blade bolts prior to fitment. Something like that may work here for the arms and tubes. If you prepare the surface well it sticks pretty good. Electrical tape, and similar is not much good because the adhesive breaks down. The Molybond can be layered to a desired thickness, within reason, and provides its own lubrication. If you try this idea then you are possibly the first to do so. A bit experimental but it does take out the potential slop in a blade bolt.

Some coats of resin will fix it. Surely.

if its a 170/230 maui boom it seems like w.a got a bad batch with lots of play in the back end.
to the point where the pins will come out of the holes.
also lots of flex when extended out a fair bit.
don't like to brand bash but not the only one to have this problem.
it seems like making the back end fit a bit tighter is the way to sort this out a bit.
either by building up with epoxy or tape.

We are looking at the exact same boom here, this was how it looked 2 years ago.
It actually had another break that didn't surface until the first sail after repair
I didn't think the extension was sloppy Mark, but it has had a lot of use at that setting.
The only reason I replaced it was that the extension was too flexy on my 8.6M @ 218cm.

Here's link to exact same boom problem. Very slack production from MS considering just how good their 180-240 boom is. Big disappointment with it.

So you did build up the back end dia. I might do that also.

If you're worried about the abrasion resistance of the epoxy resin (it's not good) you could add some calcite and alumina powder as I do for my fin gelcoat.
mix 100mls resin with +50% calcite, 25% graphite, 25% aluminium oxide
materials are used by potters for glazing.

i haven't used my one since it let go on me.
it always felt flimsy compared to my enigma.
mine was being used with a 8.6 at 218 extension
probably a bit overpowered.

When I used my Mauis on the 8.6M they just didn't feel safe, you could see the extensions bending and they still had 12cm of adjustment to go By the way, I just looked at their web site & they recommend the 170-230 for upto 8.5M.

The Maui booms have too smaller diameter extension, ~20mm which is the same from the 130-180 wave boom upto the 170-230 Slalom.
Then when you go to the next size up the extension is 38mm, the slalom boom should be somewhere in between similar to other brands.
Even though they are a small diameter, I haven't seen the extensions break.

Ratz, if you want it repaired let me know, got a couple (different brands) on the go at the moment
