It was good with the trough curving around to the north of us, you could feel the wind was sucking towards that thunderstorm as it picked up, I saw guys overpowered on 4.2 at the end but geez some people stayed out waaayy too late.
Could see it getting closer and just knew it was gonna switch off the seabreeze.

No free paint job for my car though - very disappointed

Yeah I was totally overpowered towards the end on my 4.2. Came in from South Passage and it was over 30 knots, walked up to my car and bang it just dropped. Lucky escape!

That what I'm waiting for lol. Typical Mitsubishi's fading paint works is leaving the roof of my car not looking to good. Come on hail

Funny mine is a Mitsi but no fade (good polish)
Mine is due to brake fluid on the bonnet left by some fkhead mechanic. Of course it was noticed a week after the service so I can't prove it was them.

Don't I know it. I was out the back at the Passage, heading out to catch another wave when all of a sudden it was completely glassy, black and scary looking. That's when you realize that the reef is much further from the beach than it seemed when you blasted out just on the edge of being overpowered! After a few minutes of drifting and repeated water starts the hail came in, along with a fierce SE. Visibility was shocking-couldn't see the island, couldn't see the shore, but at least I was moving, albeit futher away from the car due to the change in wind angle. Ended up coming in on the edge of the bay next to the Lano hotel (not the Endeavour), with a long walk back to the car dodging lightning bolts in the flooded Lancelin streets!

Not sure what's worse, being 1km off shore, the wind dropping, the hail or the lighting bolts. Great story for the pub with mates.

Not to be too critical but we all know what causes a seabreeze and it was pretty obvious what was going to happen. I watched ppl at SP for at least 15mins thinking "why the hell are they not coming in?"
Pretty dangerous.....

I did wonder if anyone was caught out there. I had just got home and was about to jump into the shower when the hail hit. Covered our back lawn. Went to the Tavern for dinner and watched the lightning and sunset fireworks, very entertaining. Street and garden were flooded for about 15 minutes until it drained away.

It was always going to drop out, and drop out quickly but being over-cautious and getting out of the water well before it hit gave me time to go home and grab the camera, then go home again and get the memory card... (apologies for the dodgy photo editing, it's not my strong point )

Dunno which is worse....yes I do...hail on my car or hail on my boards even inside their covers!

You wouldn't catch me outside in that kind of electrical storm even if it was 10klm away.

Impressive pics Chris, what shutter speed?

Great photos of the storm

Here's a pretty ordinary one of the hail bouncing around on the back lawn.

Thanks mate, shutter speed started at 5 seconds I think then I stretched it out as the sun set to 20 or 30 seconds in the end. Severe thunderstorm warning tonight, fingers crossed, might head out again.

I usually love thunderstorms but its really dry up here and last friday we had a lightning strike that started a fire on the property..Nothing like running around in the dark without a torch with 2 buckets of water to put out a 50ft diameter fire..Luckily we got to it almost straight away but we got the firebrigade to come and douse the stump that was alight. It had hit a tree 500m from the house and run down to a stump and started a grass fire.
Bit of a wakeup call as I've always thought the fire danger would come from the NW. If we hadn't seen it and got a go on it staright away it would have blocked the driveway exit..Time to clear the back gates that go into the bush and get some other escape routes..
Lucky there was no wind and it started to drizzle or we would have had no hope.
I'm going to be very nervous next dry storm we have..
