Picked up my new AV Modena 118lr from Jez at 2nd wind sailboards a few days ago and took her for her first run yesterday. Not alot of wind but still managed a 28.5 knt run.
I had heard alot of good things about these boards and they are all true. Extremely happy with it and can't wait to take her out for another fang. Do yourself a favour and get down and see Jez and get on board the best board around. ![]()
Paid $3000 for it which is not bad considering the quality of build. Great acceleration and a smooth ride. Jez has a good ltr range in stock
so go in and check them out or give him a call for some info.
I have had mine for a year and it is a really good board, the best medium board I have ever had. I also have the 138 and 98, those are forgiving in the jibes, the 118 demands commitment but the exit speed is a amazing. Here is a short video.
I have had the 118 and 98 since Jan 2020 and both are exceptional boards.

Hey Scott, what's your fin choice on the 118ltr with 7mtr and 7.8 mtr?.
I know I'm not Scott but I use 37cm Sonntag sl pro and 37 cm Kingfin the soft version, for both sail sizes, and the setup will cope with an 8,4 in high winds.
Thanks Kasper, can you send me any links to order the Sonntag? What conditions do you usually sail in. Im in Perth WA. Where do you sail?
Hey Scott, what's your fin choice on the 118ltr with 7mtr and 7.8 mtr?.
Hi Richo, I've used Z Fin SLM S- 37cm and Tribal Slalom Carbon MK2 36cm. I have settled on the Tribal MK2 at the moment because for me it has more range and better control in choppy conditions. The Z Fins are great for sure but I would need 2-3 sizes to get the same range ... maybe I'm just a bit lazy and don't want to change fins a lot. For weedy conditions I use Tribal Weedspeed 33cm - best weed fin by a long way IMO. The 36cm works for 7.8 and 7.0 with some small mast track changes but you could go 37/38cm for lighter conditions.
For the 98ltr I also tried Z Fins but use Tribal MK2 32cn, 29/27cm Weedspeed and Delta 18cm.
With the above, keep in mind that I usually sail fully powered to overpowered most of the time.
Scott.
Cheers for that info Scott. I've got a 31 weedspeed which I use on my 2018 98ltr Manta. I'm 98 kgs and 187cm, would this make a difference for fin size? and would the 31 weedspeed suit my 118ltr AV ?. I don't have any carbon fins but will invest in one or two soon. Yeah if im not fully powered up then I'm not having fun.

With your height and weight you're going to have more leverage over the fin than me but I wouldn't be making big changes to fin size, maybe 1-2cm. Lots of factors to consider including the type of sailing you are doing. The 31 weedspeed will definitely work in the 118, might need a bit more wind to get going but will be super quick off the wind powered up.
Ok great, good news that the weedspeed will work on the 118ltr. Cheers again for advice.
I'll look out for you on the water.
Everyone who's sailed them has absolutely loved them.... including Antione A. and Bjorn D. and the quality is unsurpassed.
Aurelia shaped the RRD X Fires, and the Freestyle waves, and the demand for his speed boards massive.
You're right about our web-page Madge, when I get back from Cocos, it's to be worked on! Check Facebook tho, and his website.
