OK, this is the 4th obsolete windsurfer board I've been given in the last few weeks.

Another 'Wind Action' branded board, but nothing even remotely like the previous one. I know nothing about these boards, but this one looks much older than the other one, style, fittings, the works. Does anyone have any ideas?

Dimensions are 9' long, 22" wide, 3" thick, and it's very light compared to the other one, I'm guessing around 6-7kg at the most. It looks like it's made of fibreglass, but is it hollow? That looks like a plug in the middle of the deck to me!

The bottom is dead flat, the rocker very pronounced, and the rails are fully turned down all the way around the board. The 2 holes above and below Peter Cochran's name on the pod go right through the board into the fin box.

The non-slip coating on the deck is crumbling and scrapes off with a finger nail.

I can give you an overview.

windaction was a shop on the goldcoast that both current partners of surf fx worked at and made boards. both guys frequent SB. there is an article on ozwindsurf.

http://www.ozwindsurf.com.au/index.php?curPage=pages.articles.issue_3.middle_men

peter Cochrane is back windsurfing again also. last time I bumped into him at burrum heads I asked him if he would get back into making boards and he said he was pretty keen to just windsurf these days.

the windaction boards were great boards. really fast rocker lines and great wave boards as well. vando up this way did something around 40 knots on his old board a few years back.

i'm wondering if pete c ever made boards for the crew that went to WA in the early 90's for the world tour that happened. for some reason the white one triggers some memories from my days in Caloundra. could be wrong.

could be one of the early vac bag boards.

I loved the wind action boards I had heaps in the day. I owned a slalom board just like this one and I loved it. I bet it is still super fast.

Cheers Russ

Could be mid 90s Gestalt being that is has a hot sticker on it. I know he had a stint on hot sails before Aerotechs.

I've got a 'Bill Riddel' (epoxy kevlar) slalom board in the loft of my shed. I've sailed it once about 2 years ago and can tell you - it goes like the clappers!

LOL Ian!

Thanks for taking the time to talk to me today, sorry I didn't introduce myself properly, I called in on the spur of the moment, and didn't have my brain switched on! I also hadn't picked up the white one at that time, so was unaware it was also a Wind Action board. If I'd known that I would have bugged you about it too!

Nah, too 'good' to chainsaw for me, I'm having fun playing with them, it keeps me in the shed for an hour or so at night, and doesn't cost much money, and that makes the missus happy, as long as I don't stink the house out with resin mixing or track dirt back in on the carpet.

Besides I like the idea of 'recycling' them. The white one looks like it will be fun in the surf, I'll just have to find a fin to suit, and work out how to attach a leg rope to it. If it's hollow, attacking it with a spade bit and drilling a hole for a leg rope plug ain't gunna work!

I'm just glad they're 'obsolete' as far as windsurfing goes, they'll suit an old 'teabag' surfer like me just fine!

Cheers, Glen.

Oh yeah, and the last one I've got to pick up from my freebee source is huge! I took a quick look at it this afternoon, and it's another BIC board, but all white, about 12 foot long I suppose, wide and thick, and it has a bright red centreboard fin slot. It has 'BIC Marine' on the square back, and a big hole moulded into the front of it. I know exactly what I'm doing with it too. It's going to my daughter's place on Ephraim Island and I'm getting a couple of canoe paddles for it. I reckon it will carry my wife Debbie and I, and at least one of the grandkids at the same time!

Thanks Vando!

I've started scraping the white top coat off it, and it looks to be in good nick underneath. I still think it's fibreglass, but can't tell if it's hollow or filled with polyurethane or something much lighter than surfboard foam. The 'wicked' plan at the moment is to scrape it clean, except got the 3 logos if I can work around them, sand it smooth and either leave it clear coat or put a coat of solid white epoxy enamel on it, depending on how it looks.

the bloke I got it off has a sugar bag full of fins and centre boards, so I'll have to have a dig through it and see if there's a fin to suit those 2 deck holes in the mix.

Cheers, Glen.

I will post a picture of the SICKEST wind action board ever made. It was my dads and is full carbon. Its name is Black Death. He would never let me sail it until I got good enough to water start and do planning gybes etc.

wait until you guys see this thing.

One day at yorkeys me an firiebob where having a race and it nearly got permanently lodged in a crack in his board shorts if you know what I mean.

I took it out to green island one day before gps was around and scared myself so bad that it has been retired ever since.

Windaction (before PC) did shape a few slalom shapes we called ironing boards, basically they had very little nose rocker they were suicide sticks in the chop lol.

My first board was a Wind Action Super Slalom in the early 90's maybe 91/92 which I bought from Bill Riddell. It was great in a straight line, but I couldn't gybe it to save myself - come to think about it I still can't Fairly sure it was full carbon, it had a black top, with white bottom and black lines. I eventually swapped it. Was more than likely way to advanced for me but it looked cool

Martin Cooper is living in Gladstone. He was windsurfing for a little bit a few years back & then got into kitesurfing for a few years (made his own kite surf-boards).

But now as far as I know he's quit the water sport thing for a bit and in heavily into cycling.
