Hi I recently got an AHD free diamond for my wife.
Its got a few battle scars, nicks and cracks and I was wondering what to use to repair it.
As I understand it, the board construction is called protec, and it is sandwich construction wrapped in a very thin asa outer layer. There are a few old attempted repairs but they havent stuck well and the paint is peeling off.
It is fairly light for its age and seems quite strong. There is an impressive amount of carbon underneath, the build quality looks a step up on some of the stuff today.
Any ideas on how to do tidy repairs that will stick?
Ahhh, so you got that $50 special. Spewin! I had my eye on it
Smaller version of the FD 149 77 wide ive got.
Repair wise taper sand the area to be repaired. Back to wherever the ASA has lifted from the glass beneath. Then lay the glass/carbon down as usual sand to fair, finish n paint.
Ive repaired An F2 with similar ASA skin.
Repair ended up being markedly larger than the initial crack as skin had lifted quite a way around.
I've used this for sticking stuff to ASA skin - so maybe it could be used for fixing minor scratches / small holes.

2 part, sets quick, and very strong - you need to be neat with it when applying.

Thanks for the replies. Yep i got a bargain, i can see why you like the free diamond 77 so much. They are really thin through the tail and look very nice to blast and manoeuvre.
Your paint job on the 77 is nice.
Hi WST, for my 105kg the 77 is a ripper! 9.5m n 51cm S1pro fin im planing in 10-12kts. Can still sail it in over 20kts. Regularly get 28kts speed. It may be old but it ticks all the boxes for me. Best board i own. By far..... Enjoy ![]()
