Just watching Balz on the foil in PWA FUERTEVENTURA, and noticed his Predator board has a Slot Box rather than a Deep Tuttle.
Anyone know if Severne will be switching over for production....to me the slot box makes a lot of sense as it gives you more adjustment.
Severne traditionally did not want to do tracks as they all rolled ..... so they stuck with DT. Trouble is early track installs were crap on most brands and if done properly they are as strong, if not stronger, than DT. The repeated failures of the rear bolt hole in DT on boards like IQ doesn't exactly make it look like the preferred option (albeit crazy racers shim too much), plus of course tracks are adjustable.
I suggested tracks installed properly or even bonded to the DT insert as well, but there was manufacturer disagreement due to weight (really - like 300g for stronger....I think its a bit out of touch to argue weight but anyywayy) and possibly nobody wants to make a board that can use other brands masts hmmmm....... but at least Patrik has done just that. Their track and DT in one piece is brilliant
So we can't see what is going on under there in the Balz pic, maybe it is DT and tracks - that would be nice - but I figure its just adjustability for proto'ing as he is demanding closer / more compact mast to feet to mast
I think this is just a special single board for Balz. As long as Severne only has a DT foil they will not put this option in the series imho.

May be the case.
Severne has their own foil line that runs DT, but Balz uses Severne with Moses foils. Another mix and max sponsorship.
Like when Nico P was here working for Starboard but running NP sails and race foils.
Customers do care about weight it can make or break the decision to buy a certain board. The Severne predator 110 is light for a foil board if tracks are added weight will increase in comparison 115 freestyle slingshot is 2kg heavier but it does have a bottom carry handle and way to many footstrap inserts.

My one is same vol and same weight.
With an overkill 16" track install.
NOT bagging Severne I'm just saying things can be made durable and we hear weight weight weight from all manufacturers all the time, and whinges re: durability here all the time. I repair far less Severnes than others...
I think Balz used a DT with a bit of insulation tape to look like tracks to make all you blokes froth...

Insulation tape
would be very Balz, all frothing aside I like the Tuttle box it's simple and quick but in a world of so many different foils and front wing choices we need the tracks no matter what your foiling discipline.
His foil looks like mine: W799 and S399 on a 900 fuse. His mast is likely the M83 Kraken with the plate adapter. Hard to tell in the pictures. My mast is the older Moses 105 DT.
The only time I get into a position like his in the pictures, it is by accident, and the result is wet.
if they did do tracks......I hope they follow slingshots design, and run the tracks right out the rear edge of board. makes putting on nd off the foil sooo much easier.
I use a Slingshot Jack Plate with my Predator 110. It gives me plenty of adjustment to get a balanced ride. I install my Phantasm foil mast about 40mm forward of the tuttle box.

As long as they only have a foil with DT mast i doubt they make boards with something else than DT slot.
Btw. the SS jack plate looks cool
^ I've been using the same jack plate on my FoilX 145 for well over a year now. It's just heavy.
Perhaps no heavier than 2 properly installed slot boxes
The jack plate plus the properly installed dt box must be heavier i think
Valid point, however in my case I already had a DT box on my Predator, so I had to decide between the Jack Plate and installing 2 slot boxes to get the adjustment I wanted.

Not much available adjustment there, pretty much a waste of time really.
You could get that much adjustment within the mast track & footstraps adjustment, without even considering the talent??

I beg to differ, 1-2cm foil mast adjustment can make up for 6-10cm sail mast especially on compact boards....

Yeah small adjustments like that made a big difference in jibes

Note he said mast track & footstraps Footstraps should be a 1:1 ratio with foil mast. A lot of boards have 5 hole inserts which is a fair amount of range. A half a degree stab shim is also worth a few cm sail mast adjustment as well and for a freeride foil would be unnoticeable in terms of speed. Not arguing against tracks but many overlook other adjustments available.
