Interesting foiling session from Ramsgate today. No foiling gybes, few slogging runs when the wind was too light, but then it picked up towards the late afternoon... giving me some good long runs But at 20kts board speed, there was a slight 'elevation issue' With a somewhat problematic result!!!/images/misc/forum-image-missing.gif
Still, I think the formula board width (100cm) is better than a 75cm wide iSonic. Buoyancy is over-rated, just bounce the foil to get up!

Roh Row! I'm assuming that is the result of a mast impact or a White Pointer that got spooked by the foil

I think there is definite merit in board width particularly with bigger sails and trying to sail aggressive upwind/downwind angles. I currently run my foil in a Hypersonic 105, which is the precursor to the isonic I guess; it's 77cm wide. With a 7.8 it's quite uncomfortable to get max sail and foil performance, you just don't have enough leverage on either.

I tried the starboard 147 foilboard today with the same rig and the difference in comfort is huge; 95cm wide I think. Deck angles are perfect for the foiling stance and the extra leverage makes getting max rig and foil power much easier. Up to a 6m sail on the 77cm wide board was okay but over that is pushing it. I guess that's why the racers' are running formula or wide foil boards.

I've been using the old jack knobber just to protect any sudden nose jobs. I would highly recommend
