Nice work - thanks for sharing. Very jealous though as I can not remember the last time we had a head high wave on this side of the continent. Looked like a nice crowd for a Saturday morning.

I am back - it was flat for the 9 days I was there. Had 3 surfs and the biggest wave I caught was not even shoulder high - and it was a freak set!!!

yeah Mick that's actually with a bit more water on it than earlier in the morn, gets super hollow on the low end of the tide, the reefy bits on the beach are normal for this time of the year and usually an indicator it will hold 3m+ swell, the bigger winter swells render it a bit dodgy but still worth a look, are you gonna be local soon?

Friday was better than Saturday but got good waves on both days. More Freeway stop off surfers on Saturday, but still managed to get a few before the wind.
Hope it's not the last for the year.

yep, must admit I was in two minds whether to post or not. Although it is a semi-secret spot it can only hold about eight to ten crew. The wave sharing policy is the issue, amongst the regulars it is not cool to snake, wait your turn and just go on the next available. If you are picky it can be an issue! It's a bit of mish to get to and a bit fickle which keeps the crowds down, plenty of choices down here so it thins out the crowds.

be interesting to see a SUP at that place, never seen one, maybe a bit too critical on the takeoff, plus Avalon is their home down here, they love it!! They rent out the nearby luxury apartments and drive over to the carpark(100m away) Must say though that they look like they're having heaps of fun.

I watched a bloke take his SUP off his roof racks at secret harbour on saturday, then strap it onto a custom made trolley to wheel to the beach - as soon as he hit sand it got bogged, and he had to drag it down to the water, trolley and all. Would have been faster and easier to lift the bugger.

Fingers crossed that a new craze for lazy people comes along real soon, preferably one involving freshwater or land-based activities.

It was a nice spot that not many would venture to, but a newby to the area took his friends to Perth for a surf then, hey presto, rude hungry people who don't know any one and just want waves.
The Surfs beach crew know all about it and so does most of Rocko. In a perfect world it would be kept a perfect secret.
Hey bakesy do you know Mal Luka...? or Storm Lewi.....?

Mac, there's still the odd spot a couple of hours either side of Perth that can be very hard to access by land or that only break in certain conditions and get very little pressure. Usually due to the fact that it's not too hard to lose your car to the tide or have agro farmers up your cloaca.
Mind you the twits on here that carry on about naming The Spot or Surf Beach (Secret Harbour) need to get a rocket up 'emselves.

nah Mac it's game playing or in my case a bit of respect to the boys who've surfed it since the 80's on a regular basis, it's pretty chilled as I've said before and as long as non-locals abide by that its cool, weekdays its locals only pretty much. This stretch of coast has a few spots that can fire on different swell directions and sand movement (particularly in winter) which needs a bit of local knowledge and sharing of that knowledge. I'm lucky to be surrounded by keen groms and their Dad's who have been here a long time but even then you'll hear that spot x was working when you were at spot y and it was average!! It's the best part of surfing I think, learning your stretch of coast and how it reacts to the conditions. Goldie's the same isn't it Mac?

Must admit, I really laugh when people carry on about metro waves as if they're secret. Guys, secret harbour isn't a secret. Nor is any metro wave, such as so called 'reeling lefts' coming off sandtracks or 'protected reefies' otherwise known as Cott cove. Well done for protecting those secret spots guys.

But in fairness, the Mandurah area would lend itself to local knowledge and if that wave (which I thought looked like the wave near Avalon) is even in Mandurah, then perhaps it is somewhat secret. Especially given that that Saturaday morning was quite a circus elsewhere and from that video the crowds look true to bakesy's word, not too bad at all.
