Stroke of genius eh? On the one hand advising people to stay out of the water but then failing to close the beaches, therefore indicating it is safe?

I for one would not go near there when a whale carcass is around. I've watched some stuff on discovery that has shown me what sharks can do to humans when in a feeding frenzy. Anyone who gets in the water next to thatis out of their mind IMO!

More importantly tho, I have pretty much lost faith in the fisheries dept to keep us safe. 2 mths of research resulted in not a single GWS being tagged - what a joke! Not surprised tho, as I have been reliably informed by someone who can be described as an expert that fisheries do not have a clue as to how to go about catching sharks.

So effectively the old man in the grey suit can rest easy as Barnett and his cronies have about as
Much chance of killing a shark as dame Edna everidge has of becoming prime minister!

This makes you about equally qualified to work for the Dept of Fisheries and also equally qualified to be a shark expert on the news.

I just took my 5'10" because I wasn't planning on really getting much of a decent surf.
My 6'6" is still in Kuta though, but hasn't been used for a while.

Anyway, back on topic, yes, Fisheries are a bunch of muppets.

Who is the spanker that red thumbs everyone anyway?
The longboard forum got Laurie to check, maybe we should do the same.

I dont understand why they always want to bury whales?? Just tow those suckers out too deep water away from the beach and let the sharks go crazy!! Its got to be less work to do that than chopping them up!

I went there for a look today and to be fair it's well over a 1km walk from where you can park and felt like 2km through the soft sand. The only people there were there to see the whale so it's not like it washed up at Trigg and they left the beach open for swimming.

This is an honest question and not being smart: How much beach either side of a washed up whale should be closed?

My guess would be the danger it would be pose for boats running into several tonnes of mammal.

Don't blame Fisheries, they are just doing what they do naturally. Besides, it is their domain.

I'm away so out of the loop. Please tell me they arn't going to bury it[}:)]

As I have been saying for over a month. Fisheries are playing games with this and the government is beating its drum saying they are all over it. [}:)]

They say the research is now showing they can value add our shark fin fisheries just so they can make more money. This government is turning us into a luaghing stock world wide from an ecology stand point

^^^^^ They took it to the tip jb so hopefully that's far enough away from the beach and shouldn't be a future problem.

Well that confirms it then, aerial patrols really do work. They've managed to scare away all the sharks from Perth. Our state government is a genius and we're all safe again!

I'm the first to admit I am no shark expert and I don't know if there really are any. But logic tells me that if the same 14' Great White has been repeatedly setting off the monitors on the sensors 200m off our metro beaches day after day, this shark poses a threat. It is only a matter of time before it chooses to attack a mammal from it's area and there are more people than whales, dolphins or seals where it is hanging.
For all we know the same animal may be responsible for more than one attack?
I'm not a big one for killing things but every day hundreds of snapper, dhu fish and multitudes of other fish are caught and there is no mention of a cull.
Let's catch the ones that hang around the popular beach area's, I am sure the experts would also learn alot from examining what they have been eating as well.
