Anyone got any good tips for waves in South America?

I'm going to be hitting Peru, Chile and Ecuador up in Feb, March, April.

Keen to hit up Pacasmayo / Chicama, Peru and El Gringo in Chile. I'm sure there are millions of lesser know waves which are epic!

Thoughts? Experiences?

Thanks but that's Mexico buddy which is not in south america.

I do like the response to this question: "where to go for low key surf holiday...We are going to Mexico for a week in February. We want to surf and take surf lessons (we are one beginner and one intermediate in terms of skill level)."

"Todos Santos"

"Puerto Escondido"

Gutsy places to learn!

SA oh man spent a year going over land with my board from the US in 87 / 86.

Brush up on the Spanish

The girls in Peru will love you

Local surfers very friendly

Ecuador, Right hander at Montanita is worth a look not epic but OK. There are other waves around the area to the south but need the right conditions find a local to help out. Great county to check out.

Peru is full of great waves will need a suit cold water and can get windy that time of year the Mancora area will likely have waves so drop in if passing through, I didn't went straight to Chicama, didn't get it at its best but 5 to 6 ft two waves = 2 to 3 km. Have seen it with 60 plus guys (Peru National Surf Comp) and its still not a hassle getting wave. Hope the food and accommodation better now hard work when I was there.

Chicama needs a decent swell to fire I had to hang around for a while to catch it.

Other really good waves in the area work on smaller swell but need 4 X 4 transport

A good place to chill out was Huanchaco (good food and accommodation to the south plus there is a wave out front.

Just south of Lima lots of waves (Hermosa) ask around for waves directions for further south.

Left my board in Peru when I went south but saw plenty of waves around Chile.
