Some people may say places like Pipe or Teahupoo etc but check this place out (fast forward to 2:40ish for actual surf):

Not sure if it's just the nostalgia of the music or the lack of anything in this place but imagine that - pulling into a barrel on the southern most point of land in the world with no one around but nature and wildlife to keep you company. Time to learn my spanish and save!

Howabout you guys?

I'd actually just like to be good enough to surf some of the classic breaks around me.

Although the travel bucketlist is endless

I would love to know what it feels like to paddle into just one 10 foot barrel at pipe or towed in to a 40 foot Jaws monster either way I will only do it once cause I am gonna die for sure

Both are full of yanks unless your willing to do massive hikes to places no one can be arsed getting to....saying that you can still camp right on the beach in most places and its relitavly safe.

I would like to go in no particular order :

West coast of Africa in a yacht
Hawaii
Adaman Island
Peru
Costa Rica
Japan
Korea
Kangaroo Island
Tasmania
Easter Island
Brazil

Places I have already ticked of the list are
Indo
Fiji
Morrocoo
France
Spain
Ireland
Scotland
The UK
Chanel Islands
Porugal
West Coast of USA
West Coast of Mexico
South Africa

I got a bit lucky bro...I travelled to the UK to play rugby when I left school and found a pretty good job over there when I finished that, the pound was really strong at that stage so it was reasonably easy to jump on a plane and just go most of the time....I left NZ of the list of places I have been...its a very underated surf destination IMO....

Enjoy. When are you planning on going? Feel free to PM me with any questions......

The remains of my top list are J-Bay, Hawaii, Southern Mexico, Sri Lanka, Caroline Islands, NW WA and El Salvador. In June one of these will be gone. I have a secondary list which includes places that I have been to before and would like to go back - includes some favourites like Chile, Peru, Indo, France, Fiji, Spain and Ireland.

Tux - when were you there? We must have almost crossed paths! I was 95-99 then 2002/03. I sued to love sending money home at $3.00 plus to the pound!!!

Hey Ted was there in 95/96 and did a return bout 99-2004...the pound and Ryanair were the nuts...plus it was pre 9/11 so if you were getting any cash you could use it air tickets without any rasied eyebrows....did you surf much over there? We found some magic spots on the Isle of Wright and up near Newcastle of all places...

Yeah we found some surprisingly nice waves up that way as well....bloody cold though. Scotland was also a happy hunting ground. Spent loads of w/e's down in Cornwall and Devon - used to go to Bude a lot as it was closer to home (London). Isle of Wight is a good spot - did my paragliding license down there but never surfed. A good mate lived down the south coast in Dorset and always claimed he got good waves but we never got many when we visited!

Like yourself we spent most of our time and cashola on the cheap airfare gig going to France, Spain and Portugal with a few trips to Morrocco and the Canaries. Hossegor was a personal favourite and I spent a disproportionate amount of time there as a result. It was quicker and cheaper to go there than Cornwall....go figure!! I would love to go back and spend 3 or 4 weeks there in late Sept / Oct.

I am going to take a wild guess and suggest it is in a pretty popular spot these days where the boats go that was relatively unknown and uncrowded back in the 90's. Beautiful part of the world
