Ok I have a new clearwater Boston switch



39 litres.
We'll my first point will be is foam is my friend(I have swapped more hp type boards mid surf)
This is not a hybrid or fish board,this is a full hp shape,rails,rocker and concaves,just with a lot of volume.

I have surfed the cw as a quad and thruster equally from waist high slop to solid 4-5ft throwing beachies.

I will never fall inot the hype of wider nose and the current crop of propaganda after surfing this. Why? We'll on my hybrid it was easy to catch waves and was very forgiving. Yet when I really wanted turn it,I found I was doing more skateboard type turns,as in you could not really turn of the rail,if you did it would not dig itself in,just sort of floated above the water,hence the skater tick tack or mo're forcing your turns. On this I can really Surf on rail whether it be pumping for speed or big cutties,it just wants to be on rail,even more so when it gets steep and hollow the board is very reassuring and I feel confident on it.

I like the volume factor over the pro type pop outs for the fact : can catch heaps of waves. There is no detriment in my mind or ability for how the board performs. I get into waves easier,I can still hit the lip,in fact I'm getting closer to veritical than my hybirds due to the nose lift fitting the curve of the wave face so much better. In fact dropping 5 or 6 inches would make no difference to me,as I have traded boards mid session and hated them.

On the thruster vs quad here is my take. I have surfed the board with k2-1 found it to be a bit too loose and not enough drive for me. Pc5 quad worked really nice,heaps of drive and still turned well. Then thruster again with Shapers am2 went great.
But I think quads make me lazy as a surfer. At first I found the thruster to be slow,a vvery soft ffeeling more to the point and lacking drive. That is where I think the quads made me lazy. With the quads I feel I have a very locked in a secure feeling with speed on tap,yet the more I surfed the thruster the more I feel like that if I am more active on the wave the more the benefits the thruster offers. I can ggenerate heaps of speed if I keep moving yet the ability to turn on the spot is so good. So I would now Surf the quad on fat waves or point waces that section,and the thruster every other day of the week as I love being a more involved surfer on the wave. Sorry it's been so long,but if I have missed something or not explained myself let me know as this has been my first review bbeyond this ****ing sick

Nice, I like that style of board. Is it a single concave or single to double?

Agree on the quad to thruster feeling as well. Thrusters for power and quads for smaller stuff.

Thanks for posting Mr Chrispy, nothing better than getting it right when ordering a custom. I've had a fondle of the of the Boston Switch in Steve's store over here. Really impressed, nice clean lines, and looks quite user friendly. It's good to see Steve labelling his models on his boards now, I think it gives you a good starting point when deciding what sort of board your looking for, be it custom or off the shelf. As for quad set ups, I think a board really needs to be shaped for them, fin placement I reckon has to be spot on to get the best out of them. I have owned 4 or 5, 5 fin set ups in recent years, all but 1 went well as a thruster and only ok as a quad. The odd one out was a dog as a thruster but as a quad is amazing.

JB go and see Peg Leg and take a Scud for a trial run. Flex is best, especially under 4ft.

Yeah it's nuts hey? I was standing out the front last night thinking I don't ever recall a bout of sustained weather like this. Gonna be some mad banks around when it finally finishes.

Clearwater good wave board you say. This would be the best good wave board i've owned. I don't get to surf it as much as I would like livin in flat city but when I head North or South it's the first board I pack. Goes sooo good in solid waves.
