Anyone here used one?
I'm looking at a 5'10.

http://jsindustries.com/surfboards-v2/revolution

Any comparisons to a JS Blak Box???

Any other suggestions on similar shapes to look at?

nah i have a 5'10 cabrinha quad for kiting. but i think the volume will be too small for me to paddle, i thinks its only 5'10 x 18 1/4" x 2 1/4". The cork construction.

I've got a shapers co. 5'11 x 19 3/4" x 2 7/16" dumpster diver kinda shape which has done me well but my mate damaged it when i let him get 1 wave. I fixed it up real good but think its time to update.

I like my smaller sized waves when surfing, and mainly surf scarbs and toms.

I tried a webber mini fish to do the job of my Blak Box 6'2 i traded with my mate but its not right for me hence its up on gumtree now.

JSs are good shapes and that looks good, I was thinking in the 6,2 range for me.

I have had a Revolution for a few months now.

I like it and I don't. It's fast and fun, and good when it's really small. But I find it's a bit flat for Perth surf and can stick on the turns when in the pocket. Needs a bit more rocker for the sucky close-out type waves. (Blak box has a touch more rocker and reports are good for Perth).

Get a Cobbler from SDR, they are similar to a BB but from a shaper who knows the local conditions. When I get another short/stumpy this will be the one.

Another board coming highly recommended is the Lost Rocket.

If you really want to pay extra for a JS, I'd go the BB. If you want something for the really small stuff, get a nugget like the Sweet Potato.

Oh yeah forget kiting on the Revolution as it's got one layer on the deck!!

Hey bene, any ideas what $$$ SDR wants for a board?
I hear that there is often a long wait to get a finished product out of him.
I wasnt aware the revolution only had 1 layer on the deck, I have a habit of denting the deck real bad with my right knee while poping up. Hmm and my knee brace might smash it too.
I get where you coming from about the tail rocker. I guess for the tiny stuff i can steal my sisters 8'6.

Any other local shapers i should look at?

Yes, one layer on the deck. Although they claim it's special glass and stronger. Mine seems to be holding up fine and it has been my go-to board for anything up to head-high for a few months now.

Local shapers doing stumpy shapes - I know Lewy is doing them and perhaps Wilkes does one too. The reason I ended up with the JS was that I snapped a board so didn't want to wait for a custom. Was going to get the Blak Box, none on the shelf, but they had the Revolution in my size. My snapped SDR cost $650 off the shelf about 12 months ago.

On the glassing, I ride a a JS kingpin, good shape goes well and really like it but the glassing????? This is the first comercial board I've had in a long time after living off my own shapes for many years.

At the time of purchase I was looking at the revolution and got very close to buying it but the thing that put me off was the single layer of glass and at the time I could also get the Kingpin/blackbox for $620, they didn't have the blackbox in the size I wanted and the kingpin was a very similar shape (only real difference is in the last 8" of the tail really and a bit of rail volume) and they had the size I wanted.

I have riden the board a handfull of times and for it's age and use it's well worn, I'm by no means the best surfer but I try not to be hard on my gear, keep it out of the sun inside two board bags, etc. etc.

Put simply I really like the board but I'm not sure that my personal preference agrees with the current state of the art for PU construction. Not sure of the difference wrt the glassing methodology/technology used on the revolution as the kingpin does not use it.

hey guys
get in touch with SDR and get yourselves a cobbler for the punchier days, but get one of his monkey chops for the average **** perth days. quick off the mark and still ride like a sporty shorty.
people bring up the wait time with SDR, but dont see many broken ones or dissapointed riders at our local.... go figure....
just my opinion obviously....

The wait i was getting at was a mate was told 6 weeks but it took 12 to recieve his board.
It would also be nice if he just had a couple of pics online somewhere so you could look at the shapes.
Secrets aint close to home for me.

Anyway rode my sister 8'6 on the weekend and had a lot more fun than i though possible. Look out i may have been converted!

The revolution looks a nice board; I've had a js nitro for about 6 months, great shape but I've also found the glass job not so sturdy. I look after my boards pretty well too.

I have owned a clearwater in the past. Talk to anyone that has one and they'll likely tell you how good they are!

Rode a mates wilkes 'pyg' on the weekend, interesting board also well worth a look.

Enjoy searching Bertie, gotta love looking for a new board

Got a JS Kingpin, JS Prodigy had a JS Konfusion, JS CV8 and surfed a JS Black Box for a while. Love them all. Kingpin would be the best all round beaches to small down South board I've ever owned. Only ever surf it as a quad, Super fast. Glass jobs no worse than any 2 x 4oz deck and 4 oz bottom. Not built to last but to go fast. I've had and still have Clearwater's. Great boards also with the added advantage of working with a great shaper who will work hard to get what you want. Plenty of crew surfing the Cobblers down Surfbeach and rating them.

My SDR that I snapped was the round-nose fish and went absolutley sick. Such a fun board.

One thing I don't like so much about my JS Rev is the boxy rails. I really liked the softer rails on my SDR fish.

I reckon the hellfire 5'10" would make a great allrounder if your thinking firewire (though they make a kite version of it now).

@remarc, I'm not sure how much weight has to do with speed once your planing especially when you consider that replacing a layer of 4oz with a layer of 6oz adds less weight to you+board than your morning breakfast or changing between shorts and a springy or springy and steamer.

I hear where your coming from Blueprint, once your up and planing or surfing solid stuff maybe weight not such a factor for speed. Surfing small wave's at average Metro beaches board weight is important in my opinion. Light glassed boards sit higher in the water and flex better enabling earlier entry into the wave and more response from that first speed pump which for me at my local closeout beachie is everything. Trying to find a happy medium between a super light pro glass job and a last forever Len Dibben glass job most comercial board companys seem to use the 4oz x 4oz deck 4oz bottom. Just saying JS is no better no worse than whats out there.

i can can custom shape you a light weight epoxy the same as the helfire that will last you way longer with more spring than a pu construction for less outlay.may even have a demo to try

Yes too many options. My quiver is simply a fish, shorty, step-up. Then you start thinking about kite boards.....!

I like the idea of having a dual purpose board which surfs and kites. My two main surfboards for kiting are a touch small for paddling though. There is a need to strike the volume balance!

Maybe just get Dave Katana to shape you something EPS which you can surf and kite.
