I'm getting keen to try and find some more out of the way waves. Of the handful of mates that used to join me; one doesn't want to leave his house for more than 2 hours and is scared of sharks. One is now really scared of sharks after last summer ( might have had something to do with the one that swam under my boat just before hopping in ) and the other is either way too busy or just not interested ( and probably scared of sharks too ).

Has everyone gone soft!

I'm sure there'd be some volunteers from this forum. Shark shield anyone?

Mate, you are lucky to be able to have a boat and head out to these spots. I wish I was that bit older, that bit more money'd with a boat and I'd be following your trail whereever you go

I guess sometimes other things in life take more importance especially if your mates have a young family to raise. Me, if I was taken by a shark tomorow, my thought as I float up into heaven would be 'meh, my time had come and whoever's up there better have a pretty good reefy or beach break waiting for me!'.

I'd love a boat to do this, among other things

Maybe I'm just a bit different ( I have been told this ), like everyone else here I love a good surf but I also like the adventure of finding new waves, maybe not perfect waves but uncrowded out of the way waves.

How much has it to do with logistics? If your talking about off shore waves the access issues count a lot of crew out. Launching tinnies and or larger vessels away from concrete boat ramps is a mission.

I love surfing new waves myself, I pride myself on location knowladge within WA, Esperance to Exmouth. Finding new waves to surf through luck.. persistance and experience sometimes a few local pointers is an awesome experience.

Good on yah mate keep posting those photos.

Finding this old pic stirred something inside me, makes me want to go exploring again. It was taken about 25 years ago, involves beach launching or a really long paddle. It is remote and it's not very likely many if any would know about it. Either way I doubt it would ever get crowded.

Have surfed a few offshore spots using this vessel, however we have upgraded in the last few years to using a 4m tinnie.

Good on ya ZUKE. Sometimes you dont have to look that far to find the adventure. I think as long as you are out there seeking the dream your on the right track. I can relate to your mates. Young family work preasures. I bought a shark shield just the other day. $500 money well spent at least the cheese and kisses thinks so. So do I really.

To me, the idea of travelling far and wide to remote locations to find a wave (or maybe not) is what life is all about

Certainly sounds like your mates have gotten soft

here is my little car topper....(unfortunately its currently sitting in my yard looking very sad coz I have been to busy with a 6 month old and a 3 and 1/2 year old to use it).
i get amped when my local or the rock turns it on these days.
