I used a website called BuyitRideit before I moved to WA to get a good deal on a Channel Islands DFR. Just used the form on the board I was looking for and got back deals from shops in my area and then went and picked it up. Worked out good for me.

You can also try the manufacturers sites or surfstitch if you just wanted to use online only.

I will try and find a few more for you to check out.

I think boardcave is a scam and is run just on what's hip and cool,not on what you really need. I would would prefer to send an email to a shaper,or call a shaper and have it sorted for me. Just my opinion and it is working for me

to right chrispy , after last months epic trip to bali i came to the conclusion that more than 50 -60% of crew are on the wrong boards either cant paddle in ,cant make the drop or cant make easy sections !! maybe to many crew are blinded by online marketing bullsh!1 if you want to surf better go and talk to the shapers that will cater for your needs ,tell them how you surf or want to surf

Your probably right, I have never used boardcave but it seemed to fit the description of what the op was asking about. I notice your pal SDR is at the top of the list of shapers on there

Cant beat advice on guys who surf the same waves IMO, even if they surf them way better than you do they can take what you tell them and apply that to what will suit you.

I know how I want to surf ... reality is somewhat different.

I told my shaper what I want, he said I'm nuts but with some arm twisting he'll make it if I insist.

Hey guys look I know I will get slammed for this so I will explain myself as best I can. If you want a custom board or be able to get advice on what is best for you GO TO A LOCAL SHAPER!! But if you know what your after exactly there are online company's selling boards from OS that rant terrible. I didnt think I would ever buy a foreign board until I wanted to buy a mini Simmons recently after asking what noosa longboards would do one for, shaped by Tom Wegener a longtime family friend they came back with $1100 now I must say pricing has nothing to do with Tom and he is imo one of the best shapers in the country. But for that money I had to look elsewhere. I brought a mini Simmons and a retro fish from sanctum online for less then the one board and they are the two funnest boards I have ever owned. Look I'm sure the one made by Tom would of been as good or better. But for product price and quality I really can't argue with what I got. For those who don't know what a mini Simmons is we are talking about 5'8" of board. $200 per foot is way to expensive for me and I presume most other people. Look I'm not saying these boards are for everyone but I really do think some manufacturers price themselves out of the market especially for anything slightly different. But if you are after a standard shortv or longboard there are plenty of good local shapers at still reasonable prices. Look all just my opinion but it is what it is

I have a hard time with the logic of what you just wrote, I have a hard time with the logic about "mates rates". If you were going to buy a board off of a long time friend, wouldn't you be happy to pay the full price for his services so the a "mates" business can prosper as he has enough people coming in off the street and screwing him on price?

I'm not sure that he mentioned wanting mates rates..
Like most people in small business, you go to a mate not necessarily to get a better price, but to know what you're getting for A price is going to be quality without the risk. And a mate will tell you what you need, and whether he can do it or not..

Agreed. I can't believe the price to get a local custom board built really. Especially compared to the price you pay for of the rack. I've decided to get a local board built. Just need to make time to drop down, talk it over, test one and get it into the system. But To be honest i think time is an issue for many. Sometimes having to wait can be the hardest part

Me i love to troll Gumtree if we stay with the online option. Second hand boards can be great value and today i managed to pick up a Firewire Hellfire for a good price SHould fill the gap whilst getting a board built.
