This is a picture of a scorpion cod a vicious ambush predator. It's sting is like that of 1000 bees however it's flesh is known as poor mans crayfish.
for many the lure of the flesh is what also results in a sting.
This particularly glorious specimen was returned to complete his journey in the aquatic wonderland.
holding them by the mouth calms them down and avoids damaging the scales.
this specimen is around the 1.4kg mark
It also is better for the fish and although the risk of being stung increases, it is far less likely to hurt the little scorpion cod.
I used to eat quite a few of these things.
Now I'm mainly catch and release.
This particular little specimen was named reddy due to his colour.
