I agree it's a lot of money but it's not some ordinary board

What's not ordinary about it? Does it have some brand new revolutionary design features? Or is just a redone retro? Looks like a redone retro
Oh I.see,it is made with the help of the ultra groovy folk from douche.....

So that means you are paying for their marketing that makes this board cool?
Not that the board is actually worth that ridiculous price?
Imo a Hayden with fibre flex or something with new technology would be worth more than a retro

Chrispy - yes, in a way a New Technology Board, with carbon should be worth more...
Yes, McTavish boards can be a bit pricey... However, the more expensive boards have some extra costs...

7'0 Retro v's a 6'1 Superlight New Technology Board...
Often the retro board will have a custom solid timber stringer... adds cost, and time...
Bigger boards have more fibre-glass and resin.
There's extra work getting those laps right
Extra work in polishing...

Full credit to the crew of guys doing New Technology stuff too... They do a great job, trying to compete with each other, with a "sharp" price point...

Great reply grom man...I understand about paying for what you love...geez the amounts I have paid for what people call crap is funny...

.I think I just get irked when people try and justify a price on something because it is a better product....when in all sense, it is just great marketing and sentimental nostalgia.

Sentimental nostalgia!

Yes, good point!

Good Quality, hand made in Aus boards, are circa $700, yeah?
I think with a McT Retro, say 7'6... +$80 on materials, resins, +$50 of stuffing around for a good stringer, +$50 for polishing.
Single Fin, and Box, should roughly equal 3 fins and 3 bases. Add another $20 of stuffing around with the Leash Loop, optional!
$100?? for sentiment, and $100?? for nostalgia !!
$50 for colour tints...?
$300 for Deus to get involved?...!!

MCT charge what people ate willing to pay. Supply and demand really.
I agree they are expensive but it would be so sweet to own one.
I have another Matt manners (margret river) short board on the way. I reckon Matt is a great shaper and should get more recognition.

a retro board, a piece of history, a board what mostly likely wouldn't surf as well as most of todays boards.

i bet you look good on the dance floor(lounge wall)

Wonder what a TF handshape original goes for...

You'd have to get the art for the full uber retro experience but they are sweet looking and all the pedigree in the world...

I like the rounded pin...

Wouldn't mind one of Joel fitz's either..

Theres no doubt these retro boards look beautiful and still ride well but boards evolved and a modern board will surf better and be mostly more user friendly. If I could surf properly again I'd love to ride one of those trackers to see how they go but I guess I'll never know. In the meantime stick with it Simondo . You've been responsible for contributing more than your fair share of board porn on this site over the years.

There's plenty of swell here today again...
Time for me to head off for a few quality 'point' waves!

smh - yep, agree! I think you need to be a pretty good surfer to get the most out of a thruster... For me, for my skill level, and the way I like to ride, The Tracker suits me pretty well... The Tracker won't suit everyone though!

Some good discussion here chaps. I am all for this sentimental nostalgia if thats what you are in to. I am more interested in boards at the other end of the spectrum - high tech materials and new shapes. I am itching to get my hands on one of these Nano's from Tommo. Next week I was informed last night. Can not wait. I love the idea of these modern planing hulls.

But Ted, The Tracker went like a Rocket at Overhead Bells today!

Actually, a guy on a McT Bobsled got a ripper today, and had so much speed at the end of the Bowl, he did a big long Cut-Back, and when he transitioned over the opposite fins, he just had too much speed, for the angle of the fins! And he got bucked off!

If I lived down yr way I am sure I would have something similar stashed away. A bit annoyed today as my meeting down yr way next week has been moved to Sydney. Ahhhh. Was looking forward to a few days at the infamous Bells Bowl again.

I'm surprised you weren't out at Winki on the speed shape bro...Tracker or variations of that style are almost the perfect board for the waves down here when it gets over head...most of the waves consist on long sections that you have to negotiate before before cut back sections...turn and repeat dozens of times....
