The major problem was Teams didn't want their topline players getting injured in the Furnace of the origin games , so pressure was put on them to withdraw from the squads - which duly happened.
The AFL season is too long if you include the Pre-season format - reduce the number of games and make it compulsory for players to be made available if selected is the way to go.
pup what i could see as a QLDer living in VIC for a bit was
league players are not only playing for origin they are playing for an Australian jersey and a Aus jersey in league is everything, you play world Cup, tri nations and all countries in League tests and in ALF an Australian team ONLY plays IRLAND with a round ball and a soccer net , its not even the same game< sorry mate but its FARCKEN sad

in league no player is worring about a loacal game when it comes down to Origin or playing for Australia, becourse thats the pinical of there sport, you could be the greates player in AFL and all you realy have is the GF to look forwade to IMO
