thought fellow tassie surfers would be keen to see this. During the winter due to king tides and big northwest swells the northwest coast but particularly the penguin foreshore suffered some severe erosion . This knob on the penguin foreshore committee has proposed building a breakwater across the penguin reef - destroying both the reef and the surf break along the side of the reef and basically creating a large swimming area out the front of penguin .The reply from Toby Ray ( NWBR member ) pretty much states my position -

I'm not in tassie but I support your campaign against this person with the iq of a tic tac.
Is he serious or delusional?
Yeah mate he is serious - not sure how much pull he has but he has posted up another 3 posts today . Here is another response from toby

What a joke, I'm sure once they do a sand movement study they would immediately pan that, nature is a powerful beast and when we try and change her work she tends to find a way of kicking us hard in the balls... ![]()

Common sense eventually prevails with this stuff.
Whilst the picture looks great, the reality is money, and another environmental mess... I guess the closest thing to this is the concrete swimming pools through Sydney (beaches). And mostly they are moderately small, tucked up against existing rocky headlands... And even partially within the existing rocky areas... Therefore, being pretty unobtrusive, on the whole...
And - you know what, it just won't happen.... This type of thing needs State and potential Federal approvals. There is no way in freaking hell that I can see this even getting State level approval...
The knob who thought up this idea, with his local little panel (group) will forever remain a knob, ... until the day he dies... And even after he dies, some people will still remember him as a knob! Lol! Sorry (not sorry)! ![]()
