That was great. The traditional wooden boards were fantastic, it would be interesting to find out how easy they are to surf. Put them on my list of future "must haves". Just don't tell my wife. That footage bought a smile to my face.

cut a shape out of a peice of 20mm plywood cover it in epoxy and have a crack. Won't look as nice as those ones but you'll get an idea of how they ride.
Yea those old school boards are amazing. must have some skill to keep them straight! I am gutted i cant make it up there for the weekend! There are more videos on Global Surf Industries website - check em out!.

That is an excellent idea. If you used Marine Ply, would you even need to fibreglass it?

Anyone got some dimensions to use?
I've been cruising the net checking out stories on the wooden boards. They are called "alaia" a traditional hawaiian board now made out of a timber called paulownia (I think that is how it's spelt) If I get some more details I will post the details here.
In the meantime if you're interested check out a shaper called Tom Wegener http://www.tomwegenersurfboards.com/html/home.html.
