Know you guys like to weigh in so here goes - surfed my new Evo II on a few marginal days, surfed OK, finally got a quality day today to put it through its paces. Head high to bigger really throaty reef break, got some great tubes. Takes off fine, rides the pocket/barrel on a punchy wave well, but try bottom to top combos and it's really stiff. I set it up with FCS g-xq's on the sides, a 6" McTavish GSI (I know I know but I have a Wiz one on the way) with rear edge of fin 9 3/8" from the tail. My Originals were much looser rail to rail with the same fin setup as well as my old Jason Blewitt, I'm kind of disappointed. Any suggestions? I've used an Original with a thruster setup from time to time and it worked well. I may try that next time.

Hang in there the EVO 2 is a great board just give it sometime.

Try a 7 inch rear adds to the drive and will help your turns.

Ummm, photos please! Surely you know the rules!

The photo of the tail and fin position should help us too. Sometimes it's not about setting it an exact distance from the tail... Sometimes it's also about the spread in relation to the side biters.

My EvoII goes unreal. The best Rail to Rail 9'1 I have ever surfed. Hand down.

Hi clubted,
I assume this is your Red EvoII. Saw it on your profile. Fin position looks good.

On second thoughts, you could put the fin forward a full 1/2 inch. Or even just 3/8".
In theory it will loosen it up too.

Hang on, I will measure mine.

OK, I'm back. I think I have the solution.
I was lucky, I received my board with marks on the box.
Leading edge of fin is about 2"3/4 behind the rear of the side bites, and 14"1/2 from the tail.

But I have the exact same box in mine. Assume the box is installed in the same place...

See the black stripe pretty much on the fin screw. Well put the leading edge of the fin on the black stripe, or the front of the black stripe.

It's not really a black stripe, it's actually a black wedge tail, but you get my drift.

In other words, move it forward by 3/8's to a 1/2 inch. As per my thoughts above.

Yes, that's mine and thanks for the input. I only ordered the 6" a week or so ago. If they haven't sent it should I get a 7? A 7 seems more like my old fins, this looks a little small but I already had it.

Just checked mine again. The box is in the exact same spot. The front of the box lines up with the rear of the side biters.

My fin box also has the 6 sets of wedges, and the centre 2 wedges are closer together. Exact same box, in the same spot! Quality Control hey!

Glad I could help. Will post a pic of mine later.

Is your's a 9'1?

Mine's a 9'0. Those photos with the 7" just have a better look. I'll see if I can change my order.

My 2 cents here.

I thought an EVO 11 was a sportier verison of the Fireball. If you have surfed it in "Head high to bigger really throaty reef break, got some great tubes" I would have thought the Original with more rocker, more suited to this type of conditions and not surprised it felt better. I think the Evo 11 sounds a much better 1 board quiver as the Original feels boring in marginal conditions but comes alive in punchy waves.

The again I could be wrong

Simondo, thanks for the advice. Got the genuine Wiz fin the other day (10 days after ordering it!) and noticed it is considerably different that its GSI cousin. Wider base and 3/8" taller, should provide more drive. Plus I moved it to your specs, up considerably. Hope to get it out in quality surf again soon.

Here's the new 6" fin by Wiz (more like 6 3/8) mounted further up in the box per your suggestions. Looking forward to testing it out.

Nice fin there, the new fins like yours have a thinner tip shape which adds to more flex = more drive tighter turns.
I just replaced an 8 and 10 in fin for different boards and you can notice the change.

I 99.9% sure that all McT fins from Wizz are a tab bigger than they say,7 inch is really a tab bigger and some on.

Was talking with Dave from McT yesterday. He suggested bigger sides in my UF8 (small Kelly Slaters) and maybe a smaller centre fin to loosen it up and give more drive?

Theory is the larger sides moves the pivot point forward. Sounds logical and worth a try. I think he is using quite big sides in his 9fter.
