Now I really am...

G'day brethren,
First post in this forum, long time reader.
Here's the easy bit, 85kg on a good day, 45 yrs (that's early 40's right?) started surfing about oh 3 yrs ago (not my fault, grew up in Belfast) getting a few waves on JC Log 9'6" and wanting to ride something a bit more lively (that said, it could be the driver, not the vehicle, know what I mean?)
So... I've got a tint job in mind but started researching boards and have spun out on info overload! Mostly gonna be riding beachies and some points (sunshine coast) up to maybe head high.
Any advise gratefully received.
Cheers
G

I would strongly suggest you talk to Tully at Shotgun surfboards in Noosa and also have a chat to the boys at Classic Malibu and see what they both suggest - both have sensational ranges and loads of local knowledge - you can't go wrong with either IMO.

G spot, at 45 your still a grom and at 85kg a lightweight one!

Just get what ever feels good under the arm as long as its at least 8 ft long and 22 wide. Don't stress over it and don't stress if your change it over 3 months later. Changing boards is half the enjoyment. I've been surfing Alex a bit lately, i reckon it's a fuller wave up the Sunny coast and a uf8 might have too much rocker. I heard BB had specials on epoxy 8ft 7s Super Fish. You could do a lot worse than that.

Welcome mate

Pic please Gil. If you current board has really soft (rounded) rails out near the tail, then it will be the board, not the driver!

A 9'1 McTavish EvoII will suit. Had a moderate amount of rocker for beachies. But the board also carries years worth of little refinements. McTavish boards "just work". They are the equivalent of Channel Islands Short Boards, but in the Longboard Arena, in terms of being a well researched and well refined board.

You mentioned Tints... Well McTavish are about the best in the business. Whilst they do loads of sprays, their tint work is truely amazing. Tints require more care, and more skill, and sprays are just easier... But you can create more detail with spray... But I like TINTS!

A 9'1 will compliment your 9'6 just nicely. Plus, it will be really easy to adjust to.

Gil for what it's worth I totally agree with Simondo opinions, and build that quiver, it's nice to have some variety to keep fresh.

If you have a 9'6 now then a 9 footer would be a good one to get. Once you get that wired you can get an 8 footer.

Yes, I agree. Go for a higher performance 9'1 / 9'0, then you can think about and 8Ball / UF8 - McTavish 8 footers.

Nothing terribly wrong with it as far as I can see.

Nice full template from front to back, reasonably flat with a nice little turn up nose and
Tail. Can't make out the rails, but they don't appears to be too hard.

Good tail for speed and looseness.

She could be a Good paddler and A decent all rounder up to shoulder height.
