RIP Larry Gordon, one of the front line troops of the stoke pioneers army.

Apparently he was a deeply religious man, but not the nasty kind that sh!its bibles then bashes you over the head with them, he was one of the nice ones that simply used it as his moral compass through life.

I read somewhere in an obituary or a post, that there's a couple of legends of the shaping world that possibly may never have made it past the 70s had he not helped them get their lives back on track.

This leads to an interesting subject, iconic brands, the long rectangular Gordon and Smith logo really was iconic, many of us may never have had an G&S, but I doubt any of us would feel dumb if we were seen walking around in a Gordon & Smith tee shirt. Same with Hobie and weber, real icons. The boards may go in and out of fashion, but the logos never do.

Great point obct, I think the brand was one of the best in its day, they always made quality boards that also pushed the boundaries .
I don't know a lot about the men behind the brand,it's sad that I don't because I enjoyed their boards, Asea was selling a good G&S longboard not that long ago.

G and S Absolutely ICONIC. EXTREMELY Valuable as far as brand Recognition is concerned. built on reputation as opposed to masses of money being spent on marketing.

Immediately identifiable over 3 generations

They were pretty big around Cronulla back in the 70s and 80s . A few mates had them. One of their top shapers has been based down in the Gong for a long time now and still putting out some nice boards . I always liked their logos

Not meaning to be a spoil sport here but it would seem that the Guardian has largely inflated the facts of what actually happened - or maybe it was just the sub-editor who did the crime. A shame really given the contribution that LG made. I would put my cashola on Matt Warsaw over the Guardian subby on this one.

Yep Mac..Not me though..George Cooper at Cres did the work, I stripped the paint off it to find the shapers name on the stringer...

Floyd Smith ..It was a 9'6" Noserider..stupidly sold it to a guy known here through comps, I tried to buy it back off him twice..but he wont part with it

Now it sits in a container in the sun with others..
