yeah, i just went for the early. the board goes really well, really fast down the line and very positive in feeling. i was a bit worried about the board being tighter, but not so. i've got more slid when i wont it, but it pumps down the line and quicker through the turns.this one is a touch thicker at 4" and the mid rail not as low as my other. glad we did. the board, even at 28" from 29' and pulled in back half of the shape is just as stable- rapt

I really like the planshape of that Lacey.

How wide is it at 12" from tail?

I reckon the more pulled in tail is the go!

Looks great Lacey.

Great tail shape and width. Nice work bypassing the finbox in the rear (they're a longboard thing).

Do you get them cheaper if you just use the left over paint from the stairs railing?

Can you stop clogging up Dale's shapping machine queue now ... please.

3 vs 4:

Ridden quads to death, worked for a present renowned quad shaper Tripper, drank beer at my house with the guy who has relentlessly pushed them for 25 years. BMcKee. Had Lunch with Mr 3 and Mr 4, that was interesting.

Nearly every board I had for the last 5 or so years had the Multifin Tri-Quad set up (Tri or Quad) as per McKee's formulas.

The result of all of this for me: Back to Thrusters. What did I learn? That big front fins and smaller back fins are not necessarily the best set up and are mostly necessary on boards set up as quads incorrectly. 4 fins of the same size worked the best for me. Quads are faster no doubt but lack the release in some parts of the wave when you want it. Horses for courses.

Heard all this talk about quads not working on some parts of the wave but i am not feeling it, paticularly on a sup and never felt it on a tow board.

Each to there own........

Go for a 5 fin setup so that you have all bases covered. You can ride it in plenty of combinations of fin numbers and sizes.

rob already had it wet. doing what i hoped it would. each board is a step on to better things. that half the fun with sups at this early stage. i know a cop a bit and it's a bit of fun for everyone, but so what

Mate it really does look good and if it will floats me , I'd say I'll be ordering one.

On the fin issue knowing you this board is probably full of ping pong balls to keep the weight down I'd say leaving the rear box out would have had something to with saving weight and having one less fin.

actually, i really didn't worry about the weight this time.after a few boards kinda like this, i pretty well know were the fins go and the sunnies are the go for me.

here is the board gripped up. splashed out on proper one this time. the yellow and black camo looks great.
minor pimp here, simon was good enough to get a c4 grip couriered up to dales at late notice.i couldn't find anything i liked to match the board around the place. its actually a very good grip

yeah, every turn seems cleaner and more direct without that the behind the centre and tail width of most sups. i kept the front of my original 8'8 and it works unreal.one thing i've had to change is where i stand- about 3' further forward then what you would normally feel to stand. this gets you more into the meat of the board and away from the narrower back half of the board . in the photo of the deck grip, i'm now standing on the c4 man

5 fins - from a few posts up;

Billy Hamilton has been playing around with 5 fins for a while. He really rates it.

Personally I need that centre fin for fast down the line drive, on long point breaks. Give me 1 or 3 fins, never 2 (sorry MR), and rarely 4.

hi,two 6 oz top and bottom is the norm. mine was 1x 6 oz bottom. i batch, 1 3/4 and 1x6 oz over the whole lot on the top. tints and pigments add weight to a board. my blue was clear epoxy 1 layer bot, 2 top with carbon strips top and bottom- paint finish. it was very light. as i said i didn't worry about weight this time. i'm running with the idea a bit of weight carries the board better in the water when surfing. certainly hasn't affect this new board. haven't see any bagging yet.if i asked for a super light weight it would be clear epoxy, one layer at a time, sanded then the next layer-single on the bottom. 3/4 and i layer on the top and no paint, but would look pretty average and cost more
cheers
