I pretty much always push the board away from me as I go down,
so the leash is tight when the wave passes and I simply kick down and back to pull my board back.
Last swell was big, so I wore a 10' leash which is much harder to get back because it's too damn long.
But it serves it's purpose in bigger waves.

yes 10 is a bit too long ,but when its big and I'm using that 9.11 insane ,its not as draggy on ya ,
you can also take out more people with a longer leash ,10 foot +9.11 thats a 19.11 foot kill zone ,

the 8,7 placid is easier on the crowds 8+8,7 is only 16.7 foot ,so I have more friend s then .
Ian i tried the knee leash and yes its easier to grab ,but it pulled my knee sideways one day and stuff up me knee ..plus found it tangled up in my paddle
so not a fan of them in size .
great wave souwester, yallingup .keep your eyes open at whale season for them whites .we don't have seals ,so not as bad here
we only have hammerhead ,grey nurse ,tiger sharks and a few others so its all good
