www.starboard- "Startouch non abrasive deck traction ends the need for surf wax and introduces a new era of surfing functionality and simplicity."

Just woundering, what short of experiences have people had, and if the have felt the need to add anything (wax and/or deck grip) to deck (for surfing not racing)
cheers matt

i found my startouch was definately too slippery for surfing, i just use a tail pad and waxed the deck to just in front of my feet when paddling.
if you surf for more than 1.5hrs you may need to re-comb the wax where you stand.

I have surfed for 25 years, will use wax over deck grip every time and was a huge sceptic of the startouch but after 6 months with the starboard SUP with startouch I have never needed to put anything else on the deck.

I found it fair for about 3 months then it became way to slippery and needed a pad to surf.

I find it not very effective, I am new to SUBBING but I find I loose my reference and if you get any sun cream on it it looses its traction.

I have put back traction pad on and now I am looking at a front pad. Today was the first day with the back pad and it helped heaps - I now walk the board more.

Its a nice idea but not for the surf but fine for flat water.

Cheers
Rich

I have a pocket rocket startouch 8'5 since one year and it's not good.
in winter with boots, it's ok. without boots, you need plenty of wax for not slippery.
if you can take a board with grip pads, it's better (more comfort, less slippery).

g day matt i also find the startouch way too slippery after about 3 surfs on my first board with it, it had to go, so i got out the 320 wet @ dry paper and after only about 5 rubs it was gone, replaced it with an aftermarket deck pad and all is good. the second starboard i got i did'nt even go there, just rubbed it off again and gripped it. recomend you do the same if you hav'nt found a solution already.

I don't know about Startouch ... but my SUP is a custom with a plain painted surface. It is just a matt finish with no specific grip pattern on it.

I always wear booties and the foot grip is just fine.

It is a little slippery to the bare hand so grabbing the board quickly after a fall can be a little difficult.
