I am sure there will be thise that will object but I personally would like to see these allowed into the unlimited category. With a little more tweaking we should start to see great multi-hull designs in Oz soon.
Peasey (Secret Agent) made a realy nice 17' tri and nobody over here had any problems with it. Good on him for having a go.
The more R&D and new ideas the better, as far as I am concerned.
I'd like to see it on a good runner and pearl nice and deep.. and then broach and roll over sideways..

??? I wonder if you would have said this if your favourite brand had made it. Come on give these guys a fair go. Look at what was achieved in the Americas cup this year. Only a few years ago nobody would have guessed that 2 multi-hull designs would be racing each other for that coveted trophy.
Mikeman, nah I'm with DJ on this one for now.... Cat's are a proven design for pearl, broach, and roll over sideways !!! But they are still a great design.
They are also a proven design for some great nose dive catapult stacks !! I'll get you a link !! You just wait !!

Mike.. I don't have anything against them.. They've been posted here many times in the past and mostly by me.. and I've said before that I'd buy one.. I think last time I said "if I was Pono Bill I'd buy one".. .. I'm not sure that I'd like the only way to turn them is with the rudder.. but they sure would be fast.
As soon as Jonathan got back from Hawaii I asked him if he got to try the Standa-meringue.. .. btw Sandwich Island Composites are my favourite brand for DW boards for sure.

I used to own a Hobie 16 and have done a fair bit of multi-hull ocean sailing. There are certainly issues with multi-hulls but with a bit of model tweaking and adapting I am sure that they will be awesome for downwinding.
Even mono-hulled downwind boards can nose dive if they are not carefully designed and/or ridden. I would love to see these in Australia soon.

Wind are looking epic hear tomorrow 20 -30 knots SSE winds 4ft South Swell so I'm going to do a paddle back from Brunswick Heads to Currumbin Alley 50km hope to break the 5 hour mark, its good training for the Molokai race DW

B. STAND UP PADDLE [SUP] RACING REGULATIONS:
1. Race schedule: Organizer’s Responsibility. A race briefing for competitors is mandatory prior to each race. Within this briefing, course layout / description, event rules, safety issues and competitor questions will be covered. 2. Race Age / Group Categories: These are flexible according to the event. 3. Race Craft & Specifications: 1. 12#8242;6#8243; Class Board * Maximum length – 12#8242;6#8243; * Maximum width – 33 inches * Fixed Fin, no rudder 2. 14#8242; Class Board * Maximum length – 14 feet * Maximum width – 30 inches * Minimum weight – 20 lbs [subject to review] * Fixed Fin, no rudder 3. Open Class Board * Minimum length – 14 feet, 1 inch, up to any length? * Rudders allowed 4. General Race Rules [All classes]: 1. Single blade paddle to be used. 2. Rider must be standing at all times while paddling 3. Competitors must follow the designated set course, to be manned by water marshals and rescue staff. 4. The nose of the craft is the designated point for crossing the finish line when determining relative placing. 5. The finish and start lines must be designated by two buoys and legal competitors must have not crossed this line when the starter begins the race. 6. No extraneous aids are allowed. This includes, but is not limited to swim fins, engines, wind catching devices [i.e.: sails, baggy clothing, etc] and personal support teams. No twin hulls allowed (i.e.: catamarans) 7. Wetsuits and hats [sun protection] are permissible. 8. Competitors may be required to have an official mark / race vest and / or race number on their arm, which must remain on the individual throughout the event. No competitor shall be recorded as a finisher unless carrying the official mark / wearing the official vest and number on their arm. 9. Organizers reserve the right to accept, reject and cancel entries. 10. Protests must be made in writing and given to the Race Director within fifteen minutes of the announcement of the provisional results. All decisions of the Race Director will be final. 11. Race officials shall have the ultimate and final authority to remove a competitor from the race if the competitor is judged to be physically incapable of continuing the race without the risk of injury. 12. Each entrant must sign the indemnity declaration on the Entry Form before the event. If under 18, the parent or guardian must sign. 13. The organizers reserve the right to reject or cancel any entry.
