Hi, here are a few pics.
Nothing new design wise really, borrowed ideas off some of my favorite short boards and had Dale scale them up for a SUP.
The deep double concaves with chines are off a semi gun that Murray Burton shaped me for a Mets trip last year. Idea being for they straighten out the rocker line making it a better paddle. On the sup they generate heaps of lift and a bit of drive from the front of the board which maybe offsets the weight of the size of a SUP nose. Do think it contributes to the board feeling very loose.
The rail channels are from US shaper Stretch Ridell who puts them on all his boards. They act as a bit of a perimeter stringer as the glass is doubled up in the channels. Also thought they made a nice aesthetic when dropping down to lower profile rails which can look a bit clumsy.
The concave deck was to improve stability and try and get a bit of flex in the board. What’s the point of 4 inches of foam in the middle of a board anyway? A sup is just a hull, so it just adds weight, raises the center of gravity. Maybe adds strength but hoping I am picking up some with the channels.
Any way have not been on sups for long and only ridden a couple so thanks Lacy for giving me some feedback that I am heading in the right direction as it sure feels fun to me compared to what I have been riding
Cheers
