I could do with some info on ocean boards.Im wanting it for ocean crusing, not racing. So stability and glide in choppy rather than smooth water is what Im looking at.
Im 75kg reasonably fit.Surf a whopper. and race a jl blade, but know little about ocean boards.Id be grateful for anyones input

imo, something with some rocker in it will give you stability, but you might lose out a bit on the glide. how ever if you are cruising and not looking for a speed machine, that would be my first point of reference.

without having the naish crew jump down on me, the naish glide 14' is a production board that would fit the bill and it still goes along very nicely

The 14' Glide or the 14' Surfrace would work well.. and the 17' Glide would work even better..

In what way does more rocker increase stability?

well i guess because where you are standing sits in the water more.kinda like if a hammock was strung really tight you wouldn,t be able to get in it and stay on. flat rocker boards are general tippier

IMO.. Having some rocker does a few things like allows the board to sit better in the troughs of the swell.. also allows the board to move around with side chop without catching rails.. and also helps prevent to nose betting pushed under when the tail is lifted.. and one more thing it helps stop the nose catching and forcing you to only go straight when surfing a runner.. All these things help add stability but then nothing adds stability more than just having some extra width.. or length..

Yeah.. I did a review on it once and even took it on a DW'er.. and took pics comparing it to the Naish Glide.. I'll try and find it and post the link for you.

Broadman, I have a 14ft Bark exp. Its a great flat water board and I have done a few DW with it and it goes well. I did trials with the 14 glide and Bark and found the BARK a little more stable as well. She does nose in a bit but a short stroll to the rear lifts it up nicely in the waves. I am in Sydney on the nth beaches and if your around welcome to a ride. PM me. Cheers Paul

14' Laird 'Coastrunner' is THE board for what you're looking for.

Here's 2 images of the 14' Surtftech Coastrunner from earlier this week and a video of me on mine taking a liesurely stroll in the Pacific.

hey ive got one of these as well, hell stable, takes a bit of effort to get of the mark but for a cruise loads of easy fun nb: think about how your gunna take it of the car/van in the wind!!
