I think this site has some tips on how to fix problems like this. I can't check it out now because my internet has been capped.

Whoever you get to fix it make sure they drain/steam any water out of it, if not, come summer time you may get some unexpected bubbles appearing on your board. You must have been in the wrong place at the wrong time, those Kalamas are a fairly thick board! From previous experience, when the rails have broken like that you pretty much have to completely snap it and re-join together with some carbon dowls if you don't want it happening again.......good luck.

How'd you do it Teatrea?
Bailing when paddling out or were you riding a wave?
How big was the surf?

It might help the rest of us try and avoid that situation if we know the details of how it happened.

Thanks and sorry for your loss. Heartbreaking stuff.

What a bugger!

That's the second Kalama that I've seen looking just like that.

Did it happen on rocks?...Did your leggie break?

I'm sure it can be fixed but before you do you should check with the GSI guys and see what they think.

Ouch ... i smashed my kalama pretty bad on some rocks out surfing the other week (not as bad as that, but still pretty bad) it smashed the rail about the size of a tennis ball , fairly big open ding ! I dried it out in the sun all day then used two pack epoxy resin, looks ugly but seems to have work

I am sure Greeny at SurfFX would know someone who can do the job as well, they have been playing with wind surfers made from Epoxy for many years.

Don't know about the rest of us on the forum, but i wouldn't send my board to some who has been playing around with repairs for many years. Just doesn't sound good.

i actually dont know no how it happened , i did not realize untill i come in.It wasnt on rocks or in shallow water , i did get smashed by a closeout section ,the lip hit me hard and i was held under for a what seemed like a long time.Im still debating wheather it was worth it caus the wave was probably the best i have ridden , untill it closed out , i got a real late take off and got some great speed down the line.Spewing though ill be out of action for a while.Probably have to pull the short board out of mothballs.
Thamks for all the advice.

Cheers

So how about we just say Greeny was working with techniques like vacuum bagging, using divinycell and building epoxy boards back when Jake here was still pissing in his pants.

Well teatree to have your board looking like that (without just bailing from being caught inside) shows some serious commitment looks like she got caught up in the lip and good old mother nature gave her a thrashing. Broke heaps of shortboards from pulling int barrells (closeouts) but thats the first sup i seen looking like that ! Badluck but good on ya for charging
