Next week I hope to test paddle a new board that's like a big boogie board.

It's a soft foam with a hard base..about 10' x 33" and it should be like the Surftech BlackTip that we don't get here in Oz.

It's also going to be very cheap...I'll let you know once I know more.

My daughter loved the big Kalama..Here's a few pictures from when we paddled on the Yarra on Australia day.

Also a vid for those who don't know what a BlackTip is.

Hi Teatrea -

We can do Kia Kaha full carbon SUP Paddles for the Juniors - or we do a glass option which is cheaper and has more flex in it than the full carbon - it is also better for the kids to prevent injuries.

This was our son last year with my Kia Kaha full carbon Outrigger Paddle in hand

Full Carbon SUP JNR Paddles - can custom make to your very own colour or what we have in stock - cost $330.00

Glass SUP JNR Paddles $180

We have been taking our 4 yr old out on a 9' longboard he stands fine on it and it is narrow enough for him to paddle on it - on the SUP boards he has to move from side to side to get the paddle in the water cleanly.

We can also do packages for both Jnr & adults - POA

contact us direct for more info

My kids are 7 & 11 and they have been doing fine just on soft top long boards as Jodi says a normal sup is way too wide for them and my youngest just uses one of my old outrigger paddles. You can get the soft top 7,8 & 9' boards for under $300 here is just one link for them.

I've seen a video where a guy is paddling and his son is sitting on his outrigger seat (carved black foam?) which he has placed in front of him on the board. So the guy is standing up paddling and his kid is sitting in front of him on a seat paddling with a standard outrigger paddle. Pretty cool for the younger ones. I'm going to try it this weekend with my 2.5 year old. (Thanks for the little life jacket Jodie & Woogie).

thanks for the advice guys , sounds like the soft top boards would be the go less chance she will knock her self out , and like most girls she changes her mind 20 times a day (no disrespect to the girls on the forum)so i dont want to spend to much in case she decides she doesent like it any more.I have had her on my 11.6 before catching some little ones and she loved it untill we or me that is tried for something a bit bigger and we come off and she hurt herself , daddy wasnt very popular that day.

Yep, when I saw that board I thought it was a good choice - pretty cheap on ebay too? The Uli is great for that reason also. Starting off, some kids will be much more comfortable on something they believe will not hurt them. You don't want to risk hurting them on their first outings or you will find it hard to get them to go on it again.

got an 9 and 11 year old, both of whom paddle the Starboard 12'2" - being only 27" wide they seem to be able to paddle ok - but this is only on flat or inland water.
The eldest also paddles my 9ft Stewart, he weighs next to nothing so flies about like a speedboat.
I think starting them off on the MiniBic windsurfer at 4 and 5 has helped with balance.
Starts to get really expensive if we have to buy a whole new range of kit for them too!!!

Here's some info about those soft SUP boards.. www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=42256&SearchTerms=G,Board,SUP

I'm not sure how you would go about trying to make one.

I picked up a used kids windsurfer for $50 that a lifeguard found blown up on a beach nearby. Perfect for my nephews and such. Maybe you can find something similar. heres a vid of Ivan SUPing on a newer version of the same board.
