I changed a Kialoa shaft for a friend once and it's pretty easy to do yourself.. You might as well get started while you wait to get a new shaft and here's what to do.
Cut the old shaft off clean about an inch from the blade.. Then make a couple of cuts down the one inch bit of shaft that's sticking out of the blade till you almost touch the blade in a cross shape looking down into the hole of the shaft.. Then get some plyers and squeeze and crush the old shaft and try and break out the four pieces.. You may need to carefully tap a flat blade screw driver down inside the blade to separate the blade from the old shaft taking care to only disstroy the old bits of shaft without damaging the blade itself.
Hey Gassa, how did you manage that? I snapped my starby out surfing, anyway DJ is right its easy enough to do and there are few ways to do it. I've heard with DJ's way to get a heat gun to loosen up the glue as well( just be careful not to over heat as well) or using a grinding bit on the end of a drill and bore it out.

the question is is it worth $205 for a new shaft or change to a new paddle since this one didnt even last 12 months. What other good paddles are on the market except for Quick blade.

I couldnt go past QuickBlade for recommendation. Im still on my first original paddle. I have a 2nd longer one (elite) for my 12.6 also. The original is over 3 years old and has copped a flogging
Excel Shaft $119 delivered to the door. $205 seems a bit steep.
doesn't fit the head has a oblong opening not round. yes should be a warranty but palmed off to someone in sydney from the distributor whom i purchased it from,I have emailed kialoa see what they say
I had one break in the same spot as yours while paddling for a wave and one break further down while flat water paddling!......Be really careful if your trying to get the shaft out of the blade yourself. I botched mine and then needed a whole new paddle. Go the Ke Nalu....bomb proof so far!
A mate just broke his whilst paddling for a wave. Directly under bottom hand. Not that old either! I just noticed on the away side of my shaft, where fingers wrap around, 22 small light vertical imperfections below the surface that never used to be there. They are directly under my bottom hand position and spread around one hand span. This I can only guess is an area of compression each stroke. Possibly opposite forces when used as lever to turn etc. My Kioloa Methane is three months old and seems to work and flex like new but could this be a warning sign?? I can only guess you all inspect your shaft relatively often??

It's a good clean break , just repair it. This paddle I fixed is still going strong.I've done another couple of repairs since this video and the off cut from the shaft is a better sleeve than the aluminium.
