Nice boards Phil, very jealous.

Have you got the Bullet back in Oz?

You should bring that F18 down & do the Hawkesbury Classic in 6 weeks?

Radman,

More info here... Prices are shown... not cheap... Don't expect delivery inside of 3 months either.
sicmaui.com/explore/technology.html
(pricing is in USD, and you'll be slapped about 5%+ at Aussie Docks, to get it cleared, handled, etc... not sure if you need to pay Aussie GST either...

Hux has an F18 for sale here... (sort by Highest Price, or use link!!)
www.seabreeze.com.au/Classifieds/Stand%20Up%20Paddle/~rpuv5/2010-Sandwich-Island-Composites-F18-18-6.aspx?search=uQNVTXNc1pVmLaT%2fQ5QGqg%3d%3d

And I think they have just started making the F16 in Thailand. Keep an eye out in the Boards Section for more info....

Conditions;
F16 for pure DW (Maliko Gulch)
F17 Bullet for not quite pure DW (Inter Island Hopping, Hawaii)
F18 Open Ocean Tourer (Racing), and DW

Thankfully, there is a new Gold Coast Council By-Law that states you can only own 1 Down Wind Board, and any additional boards need to be made available to the public.

I am sure this has been discussed before so bear with me.

Which nose shape is better for short chop we get in WA ie 20knots with a small cross swell?? Short 5 to 10k DW close to shore.

The canoe or the surfboard see below

hilly, from what i can make out probably the 'bullet'. the one the guys on in the picture. it's more all round. my dc 16 which is now simons is similar concept.the naish 17 is a cracker of a big conditions board, but not so great on the smaller stuff. phils got both types of board so he has everything covered. i know of someone else on the goldie who plans to get the f16 and the bullet too.

it would be idea to have an all rounder type of board plus the big conditions board imo
cheers

should only be $6k if you get the ones that are being made and imported from china. i have heard the big man himself is there over seeing them.

hilly, wait for the bullet early next year or order a dc 16. the f18 is not the one from what you described. the f18 would be more suited for the average low wind days in qld

I haven't seen either. But I understand the Bullet has softer rails up front so it it less likely to catch rails on cross chop.

In the photo you have Scott Trudon on a custom F18 he rode it every time i saw him in Maui.He won the Naish race last year on it. 4th this year. But the conditions are perfect on the Moliko so you could get away with a rounder rail. The Bullet(up to 25knots) or F16 are the best rough water boards. The bullet you have to move around on alot more because of flat rocker. it is faster than F16.The F16 is the board for 25+knots good rocker you stay in the middle of the board alot when paddling and standing on the tail on the bigger swells.I did 20 down winders on the Moliko run while i was on holiday in Maui. 3 runs on a 14 Naish and 17 runs on a custom F16.The F16 is so much fun.

At 105kg I would find a SIC F16 or Bullet much better than my Haish 14?

nicely put. i got the f18 and bullet mixed up.

i personally plan to do more oc1 paddling and jump on the sup dw boards when conditions are good or bigger than normal. so at the moment- 2 boards , imo , handle that stuff best. the naish 17 and the sic f16.

for low winds, smaller swells, cross stuff and uphill there are more choices around- the f18, bullet,dc 16's and 17's and lahui kai etc

cheers

Who paddles up wind F*** that how do you class that as having fun. Mate have a go at the last 3km of the Molokai race 30 knots of head wind (pure punishment) I love training & I train hard. But paddling into the wind is pure torture, only kooks paddle into the wind.

i don't class it as fun phil, far from it. one of the reasons for getting a oc. much easier to paddle up and come back home. a lot less stuffing around with cars, catching taxis etc. the other point is a lot of races end up being side or upwind

btw dave kalama was saying on a vid he was training upwind a lot last year. by your words, he must be a kook then hey

G'day Lacey
Paddling up wind made Dave Kalama really sick. He even was quoted saying he'd never paddle UPWIND training again as paddling UPWIND is NOT training SMART!!!
in a nutshell I found a glasser (if not Dale) who is keen to strip the fibreglass of your 17ft Naish & re-glass it for you to make it lighter for you (mate that is just too funny) why do you want to f### a perfectly good DW board????

phil, he was paddling for 5 hrs upwind. 5 hrs as training is too much yeah. some upwind paddling can be good- mental application.

you don't listen phil, for the last time i sold that board ages ago

not everyone who doesn't agree with you 100% on everything is pi##ing in the wind or a kook. you gotta look outside your own square sometimes
