Where to start.....

1. SUP Surf.....going over the whitewash on a paddle out and instead of jumping off the side or back, I went forward as the board lifted, clash of the titans ending in a broken nose and lots of blood.

2. Selling my Naish 17' Glide.

3. Riding a left reef break and thinking I was skilled enough to pull through the inside.....carnage - me and the board on the reef (Sandon Lefts).

4. Paddling out for a session in a 30 knot westerly (east coast) and seriously thinking next time I'd see land was in NZ.

5. Posting on this forum, then promising never to come back but I always do - WTF ?

.....I could go on but that'll do for now.

Having a great surf out the front of home with a good mate, everything going well. Kick off a wave not standing on the board. I come up facing the board and kick the leggy to flick the board back to me. It is up the right way and I have a 6' comp cord on it, the board flicks back way too quick and smashes me square on the nose.

Blood goes everywhere instantly and covers the nose of my board as I lie down, I am seeing stars. Hit the beach and people are coming up and asking if I'm ok. Nose is bleeding from inside and outside with a good little gash.

Good news was my nose was not broken and the board was a quad so no centre fin to cut my face in half.

No more shortboard leashes on SUPs for me, too clumsy!

Stepping off the board in shallow water and standing on a submerged rock with an oyster shell on the top, slicing my foot and an artery open.

Driving into an underground carpark with two paddle boards on the roof and coming out with 1 and 8/9ths.

In early days paddling out and cresting a head hih wave about to break. I was still in paddling stance. The board hit the wave and reared up as I went forward. Board slammed me in the chest. Knocked the wind out of me.
Entering races
Flipping board over on a windy day for some reason I still don't know and had the center fin hit me in the mouth ... ouch.

Packing car and camper trailer after camping at Mount Augustus before driving about 500 k's to Exmouth WA and put paddle on roof rack. Woke up 4am after arrival at Exmouth realising that paddle wasn't tied down and was somewhere on track 500 k's away. Frantic phone calls got another paddle sent up to Exmouth. Luckily original paddle was found and got dropped off in Canarvon for pick up on way home.

Others include falling off in calm water, forgetting paddle / legrope and not tieing board onto roof rack.

Wind goes offshore and howls on the paddle in. Down on the Knees and makin no headway. End up havin to paddle across the wind and come in way south of the vehicles.

Going for a surf in front of work at lunch by myself, deciding to catch one more wave and end up getting a fin chop. Having to ride the board prone into the beach and limp back to the office, but the kicker is asking the boss to go to the hospital to get stiches. He obviously wasn't happy.

Getting out for a session, and finding an empty paddle bag in my van...
Thinking "arg! I must have forgotten the paddle last time on the beach"
Searched the beach, found nothing...
Ordered a new paddle....

Sometime later found that I just had slipped the old paddle into another paddle bag! (a "sock" type where 2 paddles can fit easily....)

- I've left the paddle behind a few times...

- I've left my legrope behind also and then refused to surf in consideration to the others at the point... While frustrating it's quite nice to sit down and watch the others ripping..

- open the boot with board on the roof only to see it slide, scratch the bonnet and then get dinged on the ground

Nothing major really...

Day before Mambo a number of years ago, falling off a Mtb Bike being silly. Result torn ankle ligaments and the comp spent on crutches. Yeah that was pretty silly.

Oh and theres always the one more wave scenario... over the past few years has resulted in numerous board dings, 1 broken leggy, and wearing a mal to the head.

Catching a bit fat wave of the day at the Alley from way out the back, while it's still unbroken I'm passing between 3 or 4 other Sups and step forward onto no deck grip or wax and face plant spectacularly right in the middle of the all.

almost the same as stepping right back on a dw board in the surf only to step on a nice shiny slippery tail.

and it just sounds pathetic when you tell someone what happened, sorta like right now

Writing off the old guy out the back on a 10 foot plus SUP who has been floating out there for the last half hour. Set comes in, I don't look out for him and I take off. I hear my mate Matt screaming "Div watch out". The old goat nearly took my head off as though I was one of King Henry's wives. That'll teach me, never discount one of the cunning old farts who lurk out the back. Div

How is this possible? I'm genuinely curious. I try to avoid calling waves as much as possible. Why should I? If I'm in position I'm only going to paddle if I'm pretty damn certain I'm going to make it. Give me some credit. And if I paddle, I am fully aware of my surroundings and who might have priority. I often spend 3/4 of the paddle looking around my position, side to side, over my shoulder, etc. So why, when I do have priority, why do people drop in "just in case I don't go/make it" or "with no idea I was there"? Why do they even paddle at all? Why should I call like a mad grommet? Have some respect, give the guy in position a chance. If he blows it, that's it, down the ladder he goes. But it amazes me how many people give the "clueless" look, "sorry best mate, didn't see you". Or they blow your first section, "sorry maaate, just wanted to see if you made it". WTF?

Thinking i could pop over 6 ft of white water on my 12 fter , lent back a bit drove as hard as i could and instantly my board was heading straight back past my head, missed by not much. I know a lad who was not so lucky and got nailed in the side of the melon.
