Sweet that make sense because that's a lot of question marks ,
What were the race conditions good times on the 12/6 not far off the 14 boys

It's not the iPad, it's a glitch between Microsoft Excel and the Seabreeze text editor. I had the same problem yesterday using my laptop and pasting from a spread sheet.

Worth noting the overwhelming majority of Men preferred 14' in the Marathon to the extent that there were less NSW Men on 12'6" entered than there are places available for national selection. The same thing happened in Victoria and I understand SA and WA expect a similar conundrum. It would seem the opportunity for a self funded trip to Peru is of interest to barely a dozen Men nationally. Everyone else just wants to race on the appropriate board length.

Another example of 12'6 class #FAIL.

11x paddlers in the 12'6 class and 37x paddlers choosing 14's even though selection (and hence honour?!?) is in the 12'6 class. What the 12'6 selection rule is achieving in this instance is that competition is weakened as some of your strong paddlers chose to paddle in another class. That means the paddlers vying for Team selection are not exposed to the pace of a Travis Grant and you will ultimately be sending a weaker Team.

Whats amazing is that you still had more 14's in the long distance when the sprints where limited to 12'6, meaning people had to bring two boards. You would have thought that people would have been happy to bring just one 12'6 for all disciplines.

It must be clear by now that people don't want to go slow on 12'6s.....

The Women didn't have a choice so not all 11 paddlers actually "chose" to race on 12'6".

What a great (long) weekend of surfing and racing. Surfing NSW, led by Luke Madden, are setting the benchmark down here for high quality/value events. With little SUP experience these guys are working incredibly hard to filter the numerous different opinions they are getting from all the various interest groups and come up with something that is for the good of the sport.
Having the 2 best downwind racers in the country in different board classes was not good for the sport. People on the outside looking in must of been wondering how the defending champ (Beau) could be so far behind Travis when just the day before they went toe to toe for the whole BOP. He raced a 12'6 ace which looked exactly the same as the 14 aces - just confusing.
Hopefully this won't happen again and the best race the best in the same class (ala the 20Bs and the Doctor).
Irrespective, on either board, the conditions were awesome and everyone came in with a smile on their dial

were the qlders riding 14's for fun as they wont get selected via the nsw event anyway? And also preparing for Europe (racing on 14's)... I dont think it as clearly shunned peru as it first appears. the top guys will still be battling at nationals on 12'6s imo.

however he is sort of right with paddlers voting with their boards of choice.

i personally value peterp contributions on all subjects.

the board lenght debate will go on for quite a while yet me thinks

Well said Dave - it's a shame we didn't have Beau on a 2013 spec 14'Ace challenging Travis on the new DC/NSP 14' dugout. Not the fault of Luke and Surfing NSW of course. These are categories imposed by a higher authority.

Simple fix to the board class debate would be too allocate prize money based on entry numbers.
If more people choose to race 14's in this sort of event then more money will go there. True elite paddlers get the money they tend to follow and the masses race the boards they want to race. Simple?

we can argue about board length , but their is no argument whos the best in oz right now. Travis is killing it , will be good to see how he and the other Aussie crew go in Europe.Good Luck. And Jake stay away from the French girls until the racings done

Which makes Kissa's effort of being 45 secs behind even more amazing. I look at the training those guys do and the age and the semi pro status then a guy like Dave who is 45, kids, mortgage, etc, is so close - incredible.
