Here's the video of Jonathan launching his new 14' board. Check out the head-to-head comparison with the Naish Glide 14' about 3.30 into the clip.

Geez PTwoody , Don't worry about Oliver what about MY apology? The cheap Trick song is great but Chris de Burgh's "don't pay the ferryman" made a small amount of sick come up in my mouth. Please don't ever do that again!

Yes I'm aware that you're more of a "Lady in Red" type.

The naish looks like it can have a few extra stokes, per side, before needing to swap.

It looked good when the strokes were totally in synch in the head to head battle.
Stroke cadence was exactly the same

I was kind of grooving along to the first track and thought what the hell are you on about PT the music is ok. Then all of a sudden Chris De Burgh. WTF.

Despite the second soundtrack the vid showed a good comparison between the two boards on flat water. So how much cheaper is the starboard to the naish - seems to go equally as well.

Well one of the better videos posted, also loved the split screen.

However in the first segment was it me or was there a difference in stroke rate

Good paddling guys and enjoyed the tacking on the new Starboard

Oh and Oliver would have requested Split Ends just to keep BP happy if thats at all possible

Thanks Paul, bit scary having the world check out your stroke - in stereo!!

Just amazing how close the time was, both exactly 3 minutes to the second. I actually thought I'd been faster on the Glide and also amazing how much you can stuff yourself in 3 minutes The boards feel and look so totally different. must do a repeat with someone at the other end of the weight scale, I'm only 66kg so it would be interesting to see the difference with a 100kegs on board.

It's fascinating to compare on the flat but the downwind ability is where its at for both these boards. Although I suspect 14 foot is a pretty good all round board length and IMO works perfectly with a surf SUP as a two board quiver, just that much more of a PITA to store and get off the car. So probably a lot of people will use these boards on flat water as well.

The Starboard weighs 13.3 kg by the way, don't know what the volume is - lots! It is bloody stable.

As they are so close in performance the difference in price is obviously going to be a big factor. Isn't the 14' glide about $1800 for the AST where as I seem to remember reading somewhere that the starboard is about $2500 and over $3000 for the carbon?

Ah, but we don't know anything about down wind performance yet......tomorrow is the 20k 25 knot test run

Too true, and great down wind paddling is what its all about. I'm looking forward to hearing how the next phase of the comparison goes once you hit the down wind.

I'd also be keen to hear from those that have experience on these bigger boards as to how these 14' boards compare with 16' and 17' boards in down wind conditions.
Cheers.

"don't pay the ferryman" = yes I also spewed a little in my mouth!

BUT great clip, some effort went into moving the camera around in the first section and then
the split screen, sooo good. Now thats a proper comparison.

JC, I'd be happy to do a heavier weight comparison at a little over 85kgs
Damn winter pies and little excercise!

Should get someone in the 100kg mark as well.

The water spray off the bow of the SB certainly took on whole different characteristic when Dave Hunt was on board. He'd be close enough to 100 kegs, I'd imagine.

With the offset angle the Naish looks like the sleek, pretty one and the Starboard looks like the chubby, less attractive friend. If we follow that metaphor through the chubby one is often a lot more fun. [}:)]

BTW What's all this hanging it on Chris de Burgh? He's a professional musician making a good living doing something creative that he loves to do and brings happiness to a lot of people by providing a quality product. I'd give my left knacker to be as talented as him. If you don't like his music, turn the sound off. (I don't actually own any of his music but that's beside the point.) It's as bad as short boarders hanging it on SUPs etc etc etc etc.

More BTW Kenny G is a genius and an absolute master of the soprano sax. His technique is stunning. Not sure I'd want to meet him personally or be locked in a lift with the music on a loop but he is a genius.

More BTW. So's Barry Manilow.

Sort of like the Naish is more of a gun shape & the starboard more of a "whopper"

i wouldn't call that song creative, not at all-more like mindless fm radio doss. a case of in it for the money.please a line like ' don't pay the ferryman till you get to the otherside ohhhhhhh ohha'. sure, he probably made a packet, but please don't say it's creative

as for kenny g - pure elevator music
