Ok. so I'm in the market for a longboard style allrounder. I'm looking at about 11 foot, something that'l cruise from point to point, something that will glide, but it must be able to surf. And the Nominees are (drum roll) Starboard "the blend". Simon Anderson "water Buffalo". Naish 11' 4" or Corban Cruiser 11' 6". So there's lots of youtube stuff on the Starboard and the Naish and a little bit on the Coreban Cruiser but not a bloody thing on the "water buffalo". Can anyone give some help, anyone ridden the H2O buff-a-lo. Sorry!

Have a look at the Hobie ATR 12' & 11'2" both good allrounders. I've used the 11'2" in the surf and flat water really stable with good glide.

Gday we have the 11'6" Nalu and the 12' Simon Anderson Nimitz. If you are looking at the water buffalo and the 11'4"Nalu depending on your weight, imo the Nalu would be the better all rounder, the Buff better in the surf.Looking at the volumes ,as an all rounder a bit more surf orientated we went with the 12' Nimitz. As you can see we (our family) like the longboard glide, and the surf here is rarely much over a couple of feet ,and more often a foot or so. We have the 12' Mickey Munoz surftech which gets used as a (fantastic) small wave long board, haven't tried it as a sup.Maybe a little narrow for me in that role.......Cheers

Too bad you're in Vicco as I'm about to buy a Bark 14' eliminator for paddling in the ocean and my Nigel Perrow shaped Laguna Bay 11'4" diamondtail cruiser shape (which looks new) with new Balin cover could be great for you.
Good to have a handshaped, made in Australian board thrown into the mix.

The Naish 11'6 Nalu is a TRUE longboard style SUP with good rocker, plenty of float and does it all. The Coreban 11'6 is a good board too although I felt it was better for flat water cruising than surf but the winner would have to be the 12' Pearson Arrow Laird from Surftech IMO.....oh so beautiful.

Hope that helps a little.

The mickey munoz is great as a sup especially for a lightweight (towball & I have both got one & we are dfinitely not lightweights but don't mind wobbling a little bit).
Also seems to be very forgiving & userfriendly on Big Stuff if you want to use it as a gun

i would have to say that the 12foot laird would be a great board, i haven't really ridden a big board for a while, i've been riding a 9'11 dtm, i swapped boards with my mate who has a 12 foot laird, it as great glide and catches waves wit ease, i haven't noseriden a board for a while but once you get up on that nose it pretty much just cruizes, turns very well for a board of that size, the only real thing that bothered me whas the blue lines down the board as it was a soft top, i found these to be a little bit slippery at times, but coming off of a board with actual grip it still wasn't really a problem, i would definatley try and demo one of these if you can

I think it was Laird who said if he could only have one board (surfboard not necessarily sup) it would be a 12 footer.

The 12' Laird you described is the Ron House shaped older model SoftTop. These are a few years old now. The latest Surftech Lairds are shaped by Bob Pearson and along with the 12', also come in an 11'er which would arguably be the best 11' 'longboard' production sup so far. Definitely the best 11' sup I have ridden to date.

I have the 12ft Laird (Ron House). It is a lot of board bulk when on a wave. I have an 11ft Simon Water Buffalo. Only 1ft smaller but just so much easier to handle. I have PM'ed you as it is for sale. cheers

Just the board.....don't think Munoz has visited lately :)
The 12 foot Laird would be the one I'd be keen on for sure

i have a 10 foot coreban icon

i bought it because it has a longboard style about it without being too big...so on the days when its too windy to sup i can paddle out and surf prone if i have too....and that way also wont offend the line up because i dont have a paddle

check it out it rocks.

I have only been riding my 11'4" in the river and rivermouth or the bay when there's no swell.
But after surfing my local point on a 5'11" Mini-simmons like board this morning I'm having second thoughts about not taking my sup out to surf it out there.
The longboarders that surf there are so unbelievably greedy.
I didn't drop in on anyone but they had no such compunctions.
I don't blame anyone on a sup for taking over at places like this.
Small rant....I feel better now.
Luckily I just paid a deposit on a lightly used Bark 14' expedition so I'll be able to stay right away from the rabble.

Well I'm the proud owner of a new Simon Anderson Water Buffalo(it's a big surfboard not a cow)yeeeha!!! Took it for a little paddle up around the surf club at port Melbourne yesterday. I must say I like this thing already, stable, glides alone real nice can't wait to get some waves. Thanks to all those breezers that PM'd me, and thanks for the advice

I have paddled and surfed pretty much every longboard style sup and as a longboarder myself the two best larger longboard syle sups are the Pearson Laird models and the Starboard 10.3 x 29 pro - IMO.

yeah but I wanted 11 foot or more for flat water and to tell you the truth I wouldn't know the difference between the last ****teenth of performance anyway ,so... ignorance is bliss

I was talking to my longboard shaper this morning and he reckons his 11.2 longboard sup is the best in the world (don't they always say that though). I have had a look at the dimensions and shape of the board and I have to say that it does possess everything that should make it unbeatable - so I have asked him to send me his 11.2 to demo for a coupla weeks. So if anyone wants to have a paddle or surf on it whilst I have it let me know.
In my opinion this guy makes the best performance longboards in Aus' so I am really looking forward to seeing how that translates to an 11ft sup.

Alright, here's another that is definitely worth a look in the 'long board' stakes, the Amundson 11'3" by Aquaglide. I'm onto the '11 model now ( had an '09 for a couple of years), singlefin, nice bladey profile, light and strong, great glide, and just a terrific board for local surf ( Perth ) and flat water too.
