Is anyone keen to do a practice run for the Whalebone this Sunday?
We can park the VW at Cottesloe and could transport around 12 boards back to the start. We can do a couple or runs if needed. Its a good opportunity to get some last minute training in before the race next weekend.
If you keen let us know below so we can organise times and enough cars to transport crew back and forth.
Don't forget to get your entries in this week!!!
Download the entry form here http://www.grrinninbear.com.au/whalebone/2007/pdf/wbc2010_entry_form.pdf

Hey Adam,
Not sure... whatever's most convenient for the majority I reckon.
I always like to go for a paddle on Sunday arvo to get ready for the week ahead. So would be thinking about 2 or 3pm.
Happy to do morning though if that is better for others.
Let me know what you want to do.
Doing a downwinder on Sunday could be great, it makes it super easy with being able to stick 12 boards in the back of the VW and not have to do a huge car shuffle.
So if you are interested let us know today so we can organise a time and a place.
I'm amazed more people in Perth aren't interested in doing downwinders and racing, it is getting huge on the East Coast and overseas.
Don't forget to get get your Whalebone entries in this week.
Ian
I'm keen but could probably only do late morning or early arvo. Don't know how that fits in with others.
What is the approx distance of the run?
May sound ridiculous but I wouldn't mind entering despite the fact that I know I would almost certianly finish last.
I only bought my first SUP on Wednesday but have been out every afternoon.
Just went for a paddle in the Marina on Wednesday, didn't fall off once and thought this is easy.
Thursday I ventured out into the waves, fell off countless times and only caught 1 wave.
Yesterday I knocked off work early caught quite a few waves and went for a couple of k's paddle along the coast
Yep I'm hooked. ![]()
So yeah wouldn't mind entering but don't want to get in the way.
Cheers Greeny, yeah I bought a SUP for the waves but this sounds like it would be fun.
I reckon 4 or 5 K's would be about my limit, I'm reasonably fit but not SUP fit obviously, I'm a bit sore in the upper arms/shoulders ATM but hopefully they will have recovered by then.
It's hard to tell how far I paddled yesterday but was on the water for around three hours. make that on the water for two hours and in it for one. ![]()
Adam,
We were trying to get some numbers along to make it a bit social and hopefully encourage a few extra people to enter the Whalebone. Unfortunately it was only your self and Greenroom who showed any interest in a paddle today.
As we are still sorting out end of year stuff I think I better spend the afternoon at work.
Greenroom if you are going for a paddle give me a ring and you can pick the PIN up on your way through.
Thanks,
Ian
I would have loved to go for a paddle / enter the whalebone if it was not for the 20 stitches in my hand to repair a torn tendon
.
Like Ian said I would have loved to catch up and go for a paddle with everyone but there didnt seem like there was much interest so I went for a surf with Cam this morning. And didnt get home until about 2![]()
Im knacked!
We worked out that we probably paddled around 7km!?
How many of you are doing the Whalebone? I might be over there for some work this weekend so could conduct a "Downwinding for beginners" session, like I did here on the Goldie.
The session will include safety recommendations as well as practical tips on doing downwinders themselves. If there is enough interest I will put this on (maybe before/after the Whalebone itself).
Please let me know asap so that I know whether it is worth it or not.
The Cost? - it's free! Just turn up.
Always up for any advise on downwinders.
I've got a spare Glide and paddle if you want to do the race mikeman.
Yeah Im keen.
Although its looking pretty average weather wise this weekend.
Westerly winds and massive swell![]()
