There always seems to be party waves at waimea in all the footage I have seen over the years. Just guessing but it is really crowded and the wave is one big drop with no wall to work with so drop ins do not effect the ride that much. Not ideal but it seems to be a fact of life out there. Makes for spectacular photos and fantastic wipeouts no wonder ikiaka has a smarty hat on which does not wear at pipe???
Someone who has surfed it may be able to comment more accurately.
