I took out my race board today for the first time since our big quake in February. As it turned out it couldn't have been a better day. Clear frosty start (just 2 deg air temp) and glassy smooth across the whole harbour. It was the flattest water I have ever paddled! No one else about, just me and the birds for a leisurely 5km paddle.

And even better I wasn't at work!!

Parked up at Rapaki Bay

Not a breath of wind and no boats to disturb the peace or mess up the oily surface

My trusty Bark 12'6 fitted with a bottle cage (I hate wearing a backpack) and GPS

Yeah it took a bit of speed to get it that far up on the rocks eh!

I like the GSI paddle, although I can't really compare it as I have only tried a few others. It was instantly faster on the GPS than my old GSI paddle which I now use for surfing. It feels very light to me.

There's a funny post on the Zone about a salesman in a sup shop claiming that the paddle is designed to be used the other way around and the ridge down the back of the blade is actually a dihedral and is on the face of the blade.. and he stuck the handle on that way to force his customers into using it that way.. Classic..
